Standing atop Tokyo Tower, Rin looked down at the vast city below. The streets were alive with people moving busily, and cars rushed along the roads, their headlights glowing like tiny stars in the night.
"So, tell me," Rin said without turning her gaze, speaking to Yuki, who was floating beside her effortlessly. "Why are you here, near me? I thought I made it clear—I don't want contact with any of you unless I need backup or the situation is truly dire."
She summoned her rapier, gripping its hilt firmly, her stance tense.
"That's true," Yuki admitted, her expression calm. "But I thought I should at least try to warm you up to us."
She wanted to make sure that their new Magical Girl wouldn't be a weak link—weakness could become a dangerous burden in the future.
"Geez," Yuki sighed. "Also, put your weapon down. There's no need for unnecessary violence."
Rin studied her for a moment before finally making her rapier disappear. "Why bother putting effort into such a meaningless task?"
"I have to make sure you can work with others, even if you're disgusted by them," Yuki said. "Which, to be honest, isn't unusual. All the Magical Girls hate each other and would probably tear each other apart if given the chance. Fortunately, they manage to put that aside and cooperate—for what you might call a 'tolerant work ethic'—all for the greater good."
She didn't care what they thought of each other or how they spent their time. As long as they could fight together when it mattered, that was enough.
"I know that," Rin replied. "My friend already mentioned it to me."
"Ah yes, Alexia. What a guy," Yuki said with a sigh. "To think that a Magical Girl completely failed to follow the rules and reveal our secrets to him." She crossed her arms. "Though what really bothers me is how he managed to learn about all of us without a single one noticing. There's no way a normal human could pull that off."
"Ask him, not me," Rin said. "That is, if you can even find where he is."
"True," Yuki admitted.
Then, Rin glanced at Yuki's outfit and raised an eyebrow. "Speaking of which… where's your Magical Girl outfit?"
Unlike most Magical Girls, Yuki wasn't dressed in a frilly or flashy costume. Instead, she wore a sleek black business suit with a white button-up shirt underneath. Her black heels clicked lightly against the metal surface of the tower as she shifted her weight.
"Oh, that?" Yuki smirked. "Please. Do you really think someone my age would wear something like that? It's embarrassing. And, honestly? A little cringe."
Suddenly, darkness swallowed the area before flickering back to normal. Before anyone could react, the space above them cracked open, and monstrous entities descended from the fractures.
Each creature had a grotesque, nightmarish form. Their bodies were covered in thick, jagged shells, segmented and lined with spiny protrusions, giving them a heavily armored appearance. Their numerous jointed legs moved with eerie precision, clicking against the ground as they scuttled forward.
Their heads were bulbous and translucent, pulsating faintly as if a strange, glowing energy flowed inside them. Long, tendril-like appendages writhed and twitched beneath their heads, as if tasting the air.
But their most horrifying feature was their mouths—gaping maws that split into four sections, lined with rows of razor-sharp fangs. As they let out unearthly screeches, their fleshy interiors pulsed, dripping with thick, inky fluid.
The moment they landed, chaos erupted. Any unfortunate humans caught nearby were torn apart in an instant, their screams drowned out by the monstrous chittering, shrieking, and snapping jaws.
"What kind of monsters are these?" Rin muttered, summoning her rapier in a swift motion, her sharp gaze locked onto the grotesque creatures below.
"Oh, those? They're called Carboneum-Corpore Vampyrus," Yuki replied casually, her tone almost indifferent as she manifested her own weapon. "A lower-ranking monster, but still high-ranking in the berserk-tier category. Think of them as cannon fodder, but each one is strong enough to level multiple large buildings in a single blast."
Rin's eyes flickered to Yuki's weapon. It was also a rapier, but unlike her own, this one gleamed entirely in gold, from the blade to the hilt.
"Huh, so your weapon is a rapier too," Rin noted.
"Yeah, but not as fancy as yours," Yuki said with a small smirk.
Without wasting another moment, both of them launched themselves into the air, descending rapidly toward the monstrous horde below.
---
"Haaaa!" Rin exhaled sharply as she slashed through the last of the monsters. Its grotesque body split apart, its insides spilling out before slowly dissolving into nothingness. She lowered her rapier, catching her breath. "Well, I'm done on my side."
"Same here," Yuki replied. With a single, effortless swing of her golden rapier, she sent out a razor-sharp wave of air, cutting down the remaining monsters in an instant. Their bodies crumbled away like dust. "Though, we still have a lot of cleanup to do."
"Yeah..." Rin muttered, glancing around. The battlefield was a mess of blood, torn limbs, and shredded organs. The air was thick with the stench of death.
Her gaze shifted to the survivors—people trapped within the wreckage of broken buildings, their terrified eyes fixed on her and Yuki. Fear was etched onto their faces, their bodies trembling as they clung to whatever safety they could find.
"Well, time to erase your memories," Yuki said casually. She snapped her fingers, and in an instant, every survivor collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Their memories of the attack were wiped clean.
"Now," Yuki continued, turning to Rin, "we need to identify the names and identities of those who died... and erase all traces of their existence as well."
Then, the ground trembled violently. A thunderous roar shook the air.
A massive crack in space split open before them, jagged and unstable. The crack shattered like glass, and from within emerged a towering creature—standing at an imposing 25 feet tall. Its body was bipedal, encased in jagged black armor that seemed almost organic, pulsing faintly with a sinister energy. From its back sprouted massive white wings, resembling those of an eagle, their pristine feathers starkly contrasting its dark form.
But its head… its head was not flesh. Instead, a purple flame burned in the vague shape of a face, its white, hollow eyes and jagged maw flickering with an eerie light.
Yuki's breath hitched. She gripped her golden rapier tightly, the color draining from her face.
"That's… that's…" Her voice wavered. "That's a Demon-Level Threat!"
Even Rin could feel the overwhelming power radiating from the beast. This wasn't just any Demon-Level Threat—it was something far worse.
"It's at the highest tier of Demon-Level Threats," Yuki stammered. "Worse, its power may even borders on Dragon-Level! We need immediate backup!"
She immediately reached out with her consciousness, calling for emergency reinforcements from the other Magical Girls in her branch.
Nothing.
Her eyes widened in horror.
"It can't be…" she whispered, barely audible.
"What happened?!" Rin demanded, already raising her rapier in a defensive stance.
Yuki clenched her teeth. "That thing… somehow, it blocked my signal. I can't contact anyone… and neither can you."
The creature slowly descended to the ground, its massive form moving with eerie, unnatural grace.
"Oh," it chuckled, its deep voice dripping with mockery. "Seems like you two finally realized—there will be no backup coming for you."
Yuki glared at the beast, forcing down the fear crawling up her spine. "It doesn't matter. With power like yours, the others will sense you soon enough. They'll be here!"
The monster let out a low, rumbling laugh.
"How adorable," it sneered. "I was granted a special ability—freshly gifted by Mother Gaia herself."
The air around it shimmered—then, nothing.
Its presence vanished completely, as if it had never existed.
"With this," it continued, "I can mask my presence entirely. So forget your reinforcements, Magical Girls—they will never sense me."
Yuki's grip on her golden rapier tightened. Her usual calm demeanor cracked under the weight of the situation.
"This is bad," she muttered.
She turned to Rin, her voice firm. "We have to run."
Rin hesitated, her fists clenched at her sides. She hated the thought of running. Every fiber of her being screamed to stand her ground and fight. But even she knew—this wasn't a battle they could win. Not now.
Without another word, the two took off, dashing through the ruined streets. Their goal was clear—escape the outer zone as fast as possible.
Yet, as Rin ran, resentment burned inside her like a smoldering ember.
I don't want to run… I want to fight.
But she couldn't.
She gritted her teeth, forcing herself forward. If she died here, she wouldn't be able to protect her sister.
And she wouldn't be able to keep her promise to Ezakiel.
They had to be quick—very quick.
The stronger the monster, the larger the outer zone became. Once they escaped it, the monster wouldn't be able to pursue them.
According to Ezakiel, a normal outer zone was around 70 meters. But with higher-tier threats, it could expand automatically.
And this one…
This thing wasn't just a high Demon-tier. It could be Dragon-tier.
Which meant the outer zone could stretch up to seven kilometers.
They had to fly—fast—before it was too late.
"Not so fast."
A deep, mocking voice cut through the chaos.
Before they could cross the outer zone, the monster moved in a blur, overtaking them effortlessly.
With just a single glare, an unseen force slammed into them mid-flight.
Pain exploded through their bodies as they were hurled backward, the sheer impact stealing the breath from their lungs.
They crashed into Tokyo Tower with a deafening boom.
The force sent shockwaves rippling through the air.
Metal groaned. The tower shuddered. The massive steel frame twisted and snapped under the sheer impact—
And then, with a final, thunderous collapse, Tokyo Tower crumbled into ruin.
Dust and smoke choked the sky, blotting out the stars.
Through the haze, the monster floated over the wreckage, its glowing eyes burning like twin beacons in the dark.
"Come out now. I know that wasn't enough to kill you two."
The monster's voice echoed through the ruined streets, laced with amusement.
From beneath the wreckage, Yuki and Rin staggered to their feet, their bodies battered and bloodied. Dust and debris slid from their shoulders as they rose.
Their clothes were ripped, torn almost beyond recognition. Deep wounds marred their skin, crimson dripping onto the shattered concrete. Yet, even as the blood fell, their injuries began to mend—flesh knitting itself back together with unnatural speed.
Yuki wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, exhaling sharply. "I guess there's no other way out." Her golden rapier manifested in her grip once more, gleaming even in the haze of destruction.
Rin did the same, her fingers tightening around her weapon. There was no running now.
The monster grinned, its jagged maw stretching unnaturally wide. Amusement flickered in its burning, hollow eyes.
"This is going to be fun," it sneered. "I wonder how long you two can last."
"Well then, how about three of us?"
A voice—deep, cold, and ancient.
All eyes turned.
From the swirling dust and smoke, a tall, skeletal figure emerged. Draped in black robes layered like shadows upon shadows, it moved with an eerie weightlessness.
Its face was nothing but a skull, hollow sockets burning with blue flames that flickered like ghostly embers.
The air around it grew heavy, thick with an unnatural stillness. Even the monster's grin faltered—just for a moment.
The figure tilted its head slightly, the flames in its sockets flaring.
"Shall we begin?" Ezakiel descended toward the two Magical Girls.
"Exsecrati Mortui, helping us? This day surely has a lot of surprises," Yuki said.
"Is that what you guys call me? Exsecrati Mortui?" He chuckled. "Well… I kind of like it."
