Threatening Me? Does Chen Dafeng Look Like a Good Guy?

"Damn it, this guy's insane! He's exactly like in the pictures!"

"Is that the Commander's squad? Where are they?"

"How are they moving so fast? We were just gathering not far from here! Didn't they say they were still miles away?"

Panic swept through the open vehicle as the team scrambled. Despite their earlier bravado about not fearing the Commander's team, the reality of facing them brought a primal fear.

In the remnants of their pre-apocalypse mindset, no one dared defy the nation's official authority. It was the embodiment of an overwhelming will and the light of extreme justice—a kingly rule that made the wicked tremble.

"Calm down!"

The captain raised his head and coldly snapped, "You're all useless! If we meet them, so what? We'll just fight it out!"

"And even if we lose, we have the hostages!"

The captain lifted his foot, pressing it against the young man's back, and sneered, reminding his men, "I'd prefer if the Commander's squad looked more like a military force. If they lay a finger on us, I'll start killing!"

Sometimes, justice itself could become a tool of evil, forming its own chains.

"I'll see for myself if the so-called 'official' authority in this apocalypse really cares about the people!"

Before the captain's words had even faded, a faint, amused chuckle came from beneath him. He looked down to see the young man beneath his boot, grinning despite being pressed to the floor of the vehicle, his chest constricted, unable to speak a word.

Still, he laughed—gleefully, almost as if he had been anticipating this moment.

"Drive forward!"

Fury flared in the captain's eyes as he pressed down harder, then shouted at the driver, "What's a madman to us? In a war zone, he's just another target for a bullet!"

"We've got over twenty people, all combat-ready! You think I'm scared of him? Ridiculous!"

The driver obeyed, hitting the gas and increasing their speed, heading straight toward where the madman was.

The captain couldn't afford to take another route; the path he'd cleared earlier led directly to the madman. If he turned around now, he would lose the mission. Worse, if he delayed, they'd risk encountering the Commander's rescue team tomorrow—something he couldn't afford.

Besides, with so many eyes on him, he couldn't back down now.

If he cowered now, how could he ever lead the team again?

His eyes narrowed as he steeled himself for a confrontation with the rescue team. He had already ordered the men to load their guns, activate their abilities, and prepare for battle.

Five minutes later…

The vehicle approached the madman's location, but just as everyone's attention was focused on the figure above them, the captain felt a sudden chill, an inexplicable fear crawling up his spine.

He felt like something was watching him—like the eyes of a predatory beast, cold and relentless, fixated on him as its prey.

Instinctively, the captain jerked his gaze away from the sky, scanning the surroundings. His eyes stopped when they landed on the front of the vehicle.

Only ten meters ahead, a row of abandoned cars had been moved. Sitting on the roof of one was a man with his legs stretched out, head slightly tilted, and intently lighting a cigarette.

"Pop."

The smoke rose lazily, swirling around the man as he inhaled deeply and exhaled with a satisfied grin. "Damn, this is good!"

"Miss Jiang wasn't kidding! This stuff packs a punch!"

"Hey, you want some?"

The man addressed the soldier next to him, fully armed, holding his rifle with military precision, scanning the area.

"This is the kind of smoke the commander usually smokes, bought with points. It's ridiculously expensive! I wouldn't dare buy it myself."

"Mr. Chen, we're on a mission," the soldier replied.

"Oh, right. A mission," the man said, his gaze drifting lazily to the vehicles below. After a pause, his eyes locked with the captain's.

"Chen... Chen Dafeng!!"

The captain froze, a wave of terror crashing over him. He couldn't control the panic that gripped him as the fear began to spread throughout his body.

He would never forget this man—the freak who seemed almost superhuman.

This was the same man who could come and go as he pleased during countless attacks, his infamous reputation having echoed through the city in the early days of the apocalypse.

He killed with terrifying simplicity—no torture, no cruelty—just slaughter.

"You know me?" Chen Dafeng raised an eyebrow, flicking the ash from his cigarette and glancing at the vehicle's interior. His eyes ignored the black barrels pointed at him, instead resting on the group of hostages inside.

"Your efficiency is... average," he remarked coolly, shaking his head. "Found so few people?"

Chen Dafeng ruffled his hair and flicked the ash again, adding casually, "Just bring them all over here. I don't want to come to you personally."

The captain's breath caught. He tried to bluff, his voice low and threatening, "You've stolen from the Commander. Aren't you worried about his revenge?"

"Worried about him?" Chen Dafeng burst into laughter, pointing dismissively towards the city center. "Me, Chen Dafeng? Afraid of that weakling?"

If that idiot had just come out of his shelter, with his talent acting like a turtle shell, Chen Dafeng would've already dismantled the city center himself.

"Didn't I say before? If you come out, I'll kill you."

Chen Dafeng snuffed out his cigarette, uninterested in wasting words. "If you've got a special talent, show it to me. I'll leave right now."

"Otherwise…"

His voice rose, steely and authoritative, "Then bring the hostages here! Now! Immediately!"

"We'll kill the hostages if you try anything!"

A woman's voice screamed from inside the vehicle, her words a desperate threat.

Chen Dafeng froze, confused for a moment. Kill the hostages? Threaten me?

No, that doesn't feel right. Why does it sound like they think I'm some kind of 'good guy' that can be threatened like this?

He was momentarily silent, processing. How had he let this situation slip to the point where people thought he could be easily intimidated into behaving like a naïve hero?

The woman, thinking her threat had worked, was about to celebrate her success. But before she could, the captain coldly waved his hand.

"Do as I say. Bring them all over. Don't harm the goods."

"Captain!" The woman stared at him, confused and shocked.

"Just do it," the captain ordered, his eyes never leaving Chen Dafeng. His voice was low and filled with growing dread. "You don't understand how strong he is. We won't even have time to kill the hostages before he kills us."

If this had been a regular commander's army, their threats might've worked. But not with Chen Dafeng.

Chen Dafeng didn't care about lives—at least not in the way they did. Even if he did, he was faster than they could imagine. He could kill the hostages before they even blinked.

This man was faster than a bullet.

Under the captain's orders, the team reluctantly dragged the hostages forward, using ropes to drag them over to Chen Dafeng's location.

They didn't dare delay, rushing back to the captain, desperate not to be left behind and caught in the madman's sights.

"Quick! Protect the hostages!"

Without needing to be told, Chen Dafeng's soldiers moved swiftly, escorting the hostages to safety behind him, quickly untying them.

A staff officer acted as a temporary political officer, soothing the crowd while openly declaring his identity, pointing at the sky where the madman hovered.

It was the strongest proof, stronger than any words.

The survivors, gazing up at the sky, saw the creature they'd only seen in pictures before. Its face was still as terrifying, but now it brought an overwhelming sense of security. The hope of life saved from death overwhelmed the more fragile among the survivors, and they broke down in tears.

"It's really the rescue team! It's the madman! They've come to save us!"

"The nation hasn't forgotten us! They came just in time!"

"These bastards! They killed people! I saw it with my own eyes. They killed the ones they couldn't take!"

"That young man... his eyes were gouged out! It was them!"

"Punish them! They don't deserve to live! We need to tell the Commander!"

In the depths of despair, the will of the nation was the greatest hope.

The Commander embodied that will, and the people placed all their hopes on him.

The crowd was in chaos, but the staff officer calmly reassured them.

As for Chen Dafeng, he absentmindedly scratched his ear, irritated. He was about to berate the team for their disruptions but paused, swallowing the words.

"For the points, let them yell. Let them yell."

Chen Dafeng was more focused on the points he could earn to redeem cakes. His eyes scanned the rescued survivors as he muttered to himself.

"One, two, three... Only fifty-something points? This isn't enough!"

"Hey!"

Chen Dafeng's gaze snapped back to the captain. "You're the leader, right?"

"Turn the vehicle around. Keep looking for people."

He barked, "You've got 30 minutes. Bring me another group. No one dies. No one gets hurt."

He regarded them all as little more than laborers.

Miss Jiang had said that every person he saved counted as work points. If he did it one by one, it would take forever.

"Turn around. We're going back," the captain ordered.

The woman, wary, whispered, "We could run now…"

The captain shook his head.

Sitting in the vehicle, he looked back, but Chen Dafeng had disappeared.

Where had he gone?

Yet, the captain's fear remained. He didn't dare think for a second that they had escaped.

"You don't understand how powerful he is. Compared to us, he's the true superhuman."

The captain lowered his head, his voice trembling with terror, his body shaking slightly. "Even if he's not here, he'll be back before we even know it. And then, we're all dead."

"We can't run... If he has us in his sights, we won't even make it back to the gathering point unless he lets us go."

Only those who had fought alongside him in the past understood the true terror of Chen Dafeng.

He had never lost. In the eyes of the survivors in the city center, he was a monster.

A force to be reckoned with.

Only able to resist, but never defeat him.

Once outside the city center, everyone was nothing more than lambs to the slaughter.

He was the only predator.
