The drone swarm was indeed a formidable challenge for Chen Dafen. Compared to human enemies, the drones were even less vulnerable to his massacre, as they lacked the morale to break. But at the same time, their low cost made them the perfect targets for air defense.
Just as the drones were preparing to bypass Chen Dafen, something unexpected happened.
Suddenly, explosions lit up the streets behind Chen Dafen, followed by the piercing sound of missiles cutting through the air!
Chen Dafen turned around.
It was the modern army's anti-aircraft missiles!
They shot from behind, colliding directly with the dense swarm of drones, erupting into a burst of dazzling light that illuminated the night sky like daylight!
...
Inside the command vehicle, Jiang Xiaoci watched the battle unfold on the tactical map. The countless black dots representing enemy drones were steadily disappearing, seemingly swallowed by some invisible force.
The tactical screen showed what seemed like an endless fleet of drones, but Jiang Xiaoci's face remained stern as she observed the situation with calm focus. Her fingers rhythmically tapped the desk, making a soft, deliberate sound.
"First round of fire completed! Enemy's breakout attempt successfully blocked!"
"Should we proceed with the second round of fire?" came the question from the artillery commander.
One of the staff officers suggested, "Perhaps we should hold off. Chen Dafen is still in there. If we conduct a saturation strike, we may not have enough missiles, and it could even hurt him."
At the moment, there were no dedicated missile production lines at their gathering site—only a limited supply of firearms and ammunition. The air defense weapons they were using were consumables, and there were no means of self-manufacturing them for the time being.
"Continue firing," Jiang Xiaoci responded, her voice steady. "Chen Dafen isn't that easy to kill. Our artillery reserves may be limited, but the enemy doesn't know that."
A glint of cunning flashed in her eyes. "So, in theory, our artillery reserves are infinite."
Maintaining a strong position on the battlefield would instill fear in the enemy. Fear would open up more opportunities for them.
"All units, proceed with the first air defense plan!"
The order was swiftly transmitted over the tactical communications system, reaching every artillery unit. As the order was given, the anti-aircraft missile vehicles positioned around the area responded immediately. Their radar antennas spun rapidly, locking on the precise locations of every drone.
A deep rumbling sound reverberated from the missile vehicles, a harbinger of the imminent launch.
"Launch!"
Jiang Xiaoci's command rang out decisively.
In an instant, bright trails of fire streaked across the sky as the anti-aircraft missiles shot up like arrows, racing toward the enemy drones with destructive power.
In the sky, plumes of white smoke erupted in brilliant red explosions as the missiles collided with the drones. The drones, which had been circling around Chen Dafen, fell like birds with broken wings, turning into flaming debris as they plunged to the ground.
"Damn!" Chen Dafen exclaimed, but then burst into laughter. "Now this is impressive!"
The fragments of the exploding missiles whizzed through the air like sharp blades, slicing through the drone bodies in a wide area, yet they caused no harm to Chen Dafen.
Mike watched the scene unfold, clearly seeing that even if missile fragments hit Chen Dafen, they would only deflect off his body. Occasionally, a missile that missed its target would hurtle toward Chen Dafen, but he effortlessly dodged, unaffected by the explosions.
Even when Chen Dafen was at the heart of the missile detonations, he emerged unscathed from the fiery chaos, continuing his rampage against the surrounding drones.
"This guy is a monster," Mike muttered, taking in the sight.
Despite the modern artillery barrages, Chen Dafen moved freely on the battlefield, unharmed. He was incredibly strong, but what stood out even more was his steadfastness. He showed no signs of hesitation or fear, never once questioning why he was placed in such a dangerous position. His focus was entirely on carrying out his mission.
However, the enemy's drone numbers were overwhelming, and the first round of missiles hadn't completely neutralized the threat. The remaining drones swerved around Chen Dafen and continued to press toward the military forces, their bodies flashing with cold red lights—likely the targeting systems.
"Continue firing. Don't give them any chance to escape!" Jiang Xiaoci's calm, yet firm voice echoed over the communications.
The third and fourth rounds of missiles shot into the sky with an eerie whistling sound. The sky seemed to ignite, the explosions lighting up half the horizon.
Even survivors from distant blocks could catch sight of the rising fireballs from the city center and hear the deafening sounds of the constant barrage.
The remaining drones, battered by the relentless anti-aircraft fire, began to scatter. Their numbers were diminishing rapidly.
Although using missiles against drones wasn't the most cost-effective strategy, it proved to be incredibly effective in clearing out the swarm. In modern warfare, the key was integrating various weapons and tactics to work together.
After seven rounds of missile strikes, the first wave of the drone breakout had been successfully intercepted.
The enemy controlling the drones seemed to be flustered. Although many drones were still battling Chen Dafen in the streets, they had stopped trying to bypass him and break out of the encirclement.
Jiang Xiaoci's thunderous response had taken them by surprise. The enemy could no longer gauge the full strength of her forces.
"Report the drone numbers and air defense ammo reserves!" Jiang Xiaoci commanded.
"Report, Miss Jiang! The enemy's drone numbers have been reduced by two-thirds, but we are unsure if there are more drones waiting in reserve at their base," one of the staff officers quickly provided the data. "Our fire reserves are running low. We can manage two more rounds of cover fire."
The area wasn't large, and the explosive power of the missiles had not been fully depleted after seven rounds, but the intensity had been immense. It showcased Jiang Xiaoci's powerful presence on the battlefield.
Who could have imagined that a seemingly delicate and beautiful woman could command such a relentless offensive?
"Miss Jiang, should we fire again?" one of the officers asked carefully, knowing their reserves were almost exhausted. If the enemy noticed the weakness, it could easily turn into a defensive struggle.
Jiang Xiaoci looked down at the tactical screen, not lifting her gaze as she asked, "Where is the Little White Bear's temporary guard?"
