"Ahhh, okay, okay, I'll be there in a minute!"
Chen Xun barely had time to react, scrambling to respond.
After hanging up the communication, Chen Xun rushed out, still feeling a mix of confusion and unease.
Captain Chen was incredibly strong, but strong enough to make a superior instinctively want to protect... the killer?
Absurd!
Chen Xun shook his head. He didn't fully understand the current strength of Chen Dafeng, but it was clear that he had grown far more powerful in just the last month. Chen Dafeng had already begun his replacement program, and the first wave of shelters in Xinchang had been destroyed by him. His personal stats were nearing the 10,000-point threshold!
To put it in perspective, his physical stats were barely over 4,000 points before—and that was already terrifying enough to withstand the technological military forces and tear through the ghastly fog of the undead army.
Mike was genuinely worried. If Chen Dafeng lost control for a second, his violent temper might wipe out the killer on the spot, cutting off any chance of tracking the truth behind this crisis.
Mike's skills were currently limited, and he couldn't communicate directly with Chen Dafeng. All he could do was hope that Chen Xun moved fast.
"This Chen Dafeng... doesn't he ever carry his communicator? This is the third time I've tried reaching him, and every attempt has failed!"
Mike set down the device in frustration. He had already alerted Chen Xun when Chen Dafeng was surrounded in the food street, but he still didn't know if help had arrived in time.
Mike could only watch helplessly through the feed, seeing Chen Dafeng standing in a narrow alley, surrounded by a few defenders.
Chen Dafeng was casually watching as a group of men and women, all clad in black combat gear that resembled some kind of mechanized armor, emerged from the faint mist left in the city's ruins.
Their faces were obscured by masks, leaving only cold, indifferent eyes visible. Their presence was faint, nearly undetectable. If they hadn't appeared on their own, Chen Dafeng wouldn't have noticed them lurking in the shadows.
In a matter of breaths, the food street was completely surrounded by black-clad warriors, at least five hundred strong.
"I knew something was off today… I should've figured I'd run into a bit of luck while handling patrols tonight."
Chen Dafeng looked around with amusement as the black-clad soldiers closed in. He blinked and suddenly asked one of them, "You're the ones who killed the people of Xinchang?"
"Whoosh!"
Out of the mist, a sharp black flash shot forward, blending perfectly with the black fog. The attack was almost undetectable.
In an instant, the flash had already reached Chen Dafeng.
"Thud!"
With barely a tilt of his head, Chen Dafeng raised his hand, glancing at the small knife pinched between his fingers.
"What's this? Little Li Feidao? Playing with hidden weapons?"
Before his taunting words even left his lips, his expression changed suddenly. A sharp pain surged through his finger as dark spots began to spread from where the knife had pierced him, gradually creeping across his entire hand.
"What the hell is this thing?" Chen Dafeng cursed, throwing the knife away. Before he could get angry, more black flashes shot out from the surrounding fog.
The black blades came from all directions, forming a nearly impenetrable web, even above his head—cutting off all of his escape routes.
The enemies clearly had a high level of combat training, as they didn't even bother talking to Chen Dafeng—attacking immediately.
His defenders were caught off guard by the first attack, but by the second, they had already rushed to his side, raising their shields to protect him.
"Clang! Clang! Clang!"
The sound of the black knives striking the shields echoed around them, vibrating the defenders' shields violently.
Mike watched in shock as this unfolded.
He knew the defenders were strong—each one was an A-ranked soldier and possessed multiple team enhancement abilities.
The more defenders there were, the stronger their individual capabilities became, along with their ability to share damage and increase strength. Despite only a handful of defenders around Chen Dafeng, they still had the power to endure heavy artillery strikes. But now, their shields were shaking under the relentless attack of the black knives. Clearly, the enemy was not weak.
Where did these mysterious warriors come from, with such formidable strength?
As Mike pondered this, Chen Dafeng's expression shifted from rage to grim determination.
"Damn it! You think you can ambush me?"
His palm turned completely black, and a message notification appeared before his eyes.
[You have been infected with the "Soul Decay" toxin. This toxin will bypass your physical body and directly affect your soul. However, its effect can be mistaken for regular skin poison.]
[If not controlled and treated in time, when the toxin spreads through your body, you will die from the soul level.]
What the hell is this thing?!
It's designed to counter me!
Chen Dafeng's mind raced in both fear and fury. With a forceful flick, he flung his hand.
"Smack!"
A black shadow shot out from the gap in the shield, faster than lightning, piercing through a black-clad soldier's chest before they even had time to react.
"Thud!"
The soldier looked down at the gaping wound in his chest, his body on the edge of death. As his consciousness faded, he saw a broken black hand embedded in his chest.
The rest of the black-clad soldiers hesitated, stepping back cautiously. Their strange, shifting steps blended into the fog, wary of Chen Dafeng launching another attack.
"Out of my way. I don't need your protection!" Chen Dafeng's voice was a growl of rage as he shoved his defenders aside, stepping forward.
To slow the spread of the Soul Decay toxin, he had broken his own hand.
Now, with his right hand completely severed, he held a black short blade in his left.
"You want to play, huh? I'm game!"
The short blade spun in his hand, and his eyes glinted with murderous intent.
"Three months! You're the first ones to make me bleed! If I don't wipe you all out, how can I live up to the name 'Little White Bear'?"
Before his words even finished, Chen Dafeng's figure vanished from where he stood.
In an instant, he appeared before one of the black-clad soldiers.
"Whoosh..."
The soldier barely had time to react before pain exploded in his chest, followed by a shocking sight: his head was severed from his body in a smooth, clean cut.
Before the blood even had a chance to spurt, Chen Dafeng was already gone, having beheaded seventeen of the soldiers in the blink of an eye.
His speed had surpassed the limits of human ability.
In the time it took for the remaining soldiers to blink, dozens had already fallen.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, the remaining black-clad soldiers exploded outward in a burst of black mist, dissipating and hiding within the thin fog around the street, as if trying to find new opportunities to strike.
"Think you can escape? Not so fast!"
Chen Dafeng didn't hesitate, charging straight into the fog after them.
After taking a heavy blow, how could he let them get away?!
As Mike observed the situation, something felt off. Given the behavior of these black-clad soldiers, they were clearly professional killers. Yet, despite seeing Chen Dafeng's overwhelming power, they didn't retreat immediately. Instead, they seemed intent on continuing their assault.
Mike's instincts kicked in, and he began to suspect that these attackers might have come prepared specifically to deal with Chen Dafeng.
"They came to the city... just for Chen Dafeng?"
"They're here for him!"
Mike quickly sent out a detection skill, trying to uncover the truth.
But by the time he acted, several bodies had already crashed to the ground with a muffled thud.
Although Mike was linked to Chen Dafeng's viewpoint, he could barely follow his speed—it was like teleportation, jumping from place to place in an instant.
The black-clad soldiers' stealth tactics were unusual, and it was difficult to pinpoint their exact locations.
But Chen Dafeng's sheer power broke through their cunning. With terrifying speed, he scoured the entire fog, cutting down one enemy after another.
"You think you can turn into mist? It's nothing but a trick!"
"Trash! Trash! Die already!"
"Poison, huh? You think you're clever with poison? Just a bunch of sneaky little bugs!"
"Die! Die! Die!"
Chen Dafeng's voice roared with fury and satisfaction as the bodies piled up around him. By the time Chen Xun arrived with reinforcements, the street was covered in the remains of nearly three hundred headless corpses, the stench of blood thick in the air.
"Captain Chen!"
Chen Xun froze in horror at the sight. He shouted desperately into the fog.
"Don't kill anymore! Stop!"
"These people... They came to harm you on purpose! The more you kill, the faster you'll die! They're cursed beings—they're meant to be killed by you!"
