Chapter 11

I returned to my parents, found a satisfying job, and adopted two strays, becoming their devoted caretaker.

A year later, I encountered Tiernan downstairs. Upon seeing me, his eyes slowly welled up with tears.

The bitter wind howled, and he wore only a thin jacket.

"Sunny," his voice, wrapped in the wind, was soft.

The doctor tapped the desk several times, snapping me back to reality.

"I have-" He gazed at me intently, as if a thousand words were on the tip of his tongue.

"Were you scared when you couldn't see?"I softly replied, "Yes, I'm afraid."

Tiernan said hoarsely, "I'm sorry. It's all because of me."

"Is there anything else?"

Tiernan forced a slight smile and said, "If your eyes hadn't been injured back then, then—"

I immediately interrupted, "There are no 'ifs.' When I went to Mount Everest and saw you with Cadence, I was already determined to get a divorce."

Tiernan raised his hand, wanting to touch me.

I instinctively took a step back.
