Chapter 9

She stood there stunned by my slap, tears welling up in her eyes as she gazed pitifully at Tiernan.

I pointed my finger at Cadence's nose, enunciating each word clearly.

"First, when I got together with him, he was single. You weren't in the picture at all."

"Second, you suddenly showed up in the second year of our marriage. You knew full well he was married, that I was his lawful darling, yet you still tried to worm your way into our relationship."

"Third, even though I'm here today to file for divorce, could you show some decency? The divorce isn't final yet, and here you are, jumping up and down like you can't wait. Have you no shame?"

Everyone around us was shocked.

Cadence glanced around nervously, then said in a trembling voice, "Tiernan, she hit me. Are you just going to stand there and watch her hit me?"

Tiernan, under Cadence's pleading gaze, slowly pried her hands away.

"Cadence, you should go. I've already made things clear to you."
