Chapter 5

In the haze before losing consciousness, I thought I saw Vivienne.

Her voice echoed in my ears, fading in and out.

"Dashiell!"

"Dashiell, I don't allow you to die!"

Was this a hallucination before death?

Why would she care about me? She'd be thrilled if I died, so she could be with Gunner without any guilt.

In my dream,

I saw Vivienne from our childhood.

When I was young, my parents filled my schedule to the brim.

They made me learn piano, practice calligraphy, study painting, and even take up swimming and basketball.

I was too busy to make friends, but Vivienne, who grew up with me, always came to keep me company.

The Shaw and Gevano families were old friends, so whenever she showed up, my parents would let me play with her.

She took advantage of those times to accompany me in doing things I wanted to do.

She was like a splash of color, painting my dull black-and-white life with vibrant hues.

Gradually, I fell for her.
