Chapter 7

It was now Friday, my last day at my office job with Mr Henry as my supervisor. It was also the weekend before joining Mr Igwe's company. As you'd expect I was nothing but sunshine and rainbows.

I came to the office and started packing my belongings. I had already prepared my new job outfit and reasearched on the best way a client relationship manager should operate. I was feeling confident. Most of my coworkers looked at me with scowls, others with sad faces, almost likened to pity. I couldn't care less.

With my shift almost over, I got up to get a cup of coffee during my break, when someone said "Get me a cup of coffee."

I turned to find out who it was and it was the same lady who assumed I had gotten a job somewhere else.

My smile dimmed a bit.

"Excuse me?" I asked.

This woman was not my superior at work, we got hired around the same time. I only gave her due respect because she was a few years older than I was. So this attitude was unfounded.

"I said you should get me a cup of coffee, did you not hear me?" She said with a snobbish look on her face

"Or do you think that because you are leaving here you can behave anyhow?" She added.

Now my smile had completely left the conversation.

"I'm sure you are capable of getting your own coffee."

The room's attention was on the two of us.

"Yes but I'm telling you to get it for me." She said

"Based on what friendship? Or on whose authority? You don't have the right." I said

"You are younger than me. I am your senior. I have the right to send you on errands."

"I remind you that we are in a formal setting, a work environment. Our age does not determine standing. With that said, either you get your own coffee, ask someone else or continue without it."

I didn't feel like having coffee anymore and went back to gather the rest of my belongings.

"You think you are better than the rest of us?! Everyone, do you see how she behaves now? I always knew you were a bad person! Wherever you're going now you'll just suffer more! Rubbish!"

'I have no plans to suffer anywhere in my future. Don't curse me' I thought.

Of course she turns to manipulation, calling on everyone when the matter was between us two. I couldn't be more happy to be leaving this toxic workspace.

Thinking you are my superior at work simply because you are older than I am? That's just belittling yourself to claim authority you have no right to.

I took my things and left.

With the last few days I spent there, I could already see the backlash my department was receiving from losing their 'wheelbarrow'. The daytona project was a mess. Most of the staff were hired based on bias, rather than merit. This resulted in a room filled with incompetent staff and a massive project on their hands.

Goodluck. I've got my own stuff to deal with.
