Auxiliary Chapter [Character Introductions]

The Protagonist of This Story

Tomobe

Height: 175 cm | Weight: 73 kg

Height: 175 cm | Weight: 71 kg

[From Chapter Six Onward]

A servant subordinate to the Demon Moon family.

He is aware that the current world he lives in is the same as the dark game "Fireflies in the Night" that he played in his previous life.

In the original story, he was nothing more than a powerless, nameless grunt. However, his actions will bring significant changes—both for better and for worse—to countless fates...

The Demon Moon Family (Onitsuki Family)

A prestigious exorcist family from the northern lands.

Demon Moon Aoi

Height: 150 cm | Weight: 39 kg | Measurements: 83/59/85

Height: 160 cm | Weight: 50 kg | Measurements: 89/60/88

[From Chapter Six Onward]

A candidate to become the head of the renowned Demon Moon exorcist family. She is the second daughter of the current head, known for her distinctive pink hair.

Gifted with both beauty and talent, she is prideful, self-centered, overbearing, and sadistic, with a capricious personality.

While riddled with numerous issues, her exceptional talent makes these flaws hard to criticize.

Although she does not possess supernatural abilities, she excels in physical combat using her immense spiritual power.

Because of this, fans of "Fireflies in the Night" have nicknamed her the "Gorilla Princess."

In battles, she usually uses shockwaves generated by a fan, as she finds direct confrontation troublesome or prefers to avoid touching yokai.

She is someone who could be considered Tomobe's master.

In the past, when she was young, Tomobe once rescued her from a life-threatening situation.

As a side note, for some reason, her chest seems slightly more voluptuous compared to her depiction in the original "Fireflies in the Night" story.

Demon Moon Hina

172 cm, 50 kg, 73/53/77

A candidate to become the head of the Natsuki family and the eldest daughter of the current head.

A stunning beauty with a slender frame, long black hair, and crimson eyes resembling a fiery blaze.

Although her spiritual power is inferior to that of her younger sister, Aoi, she possesses the terrifying ability of "Extinguishing Flames."

She is a strong-willed and fair-minded individual, known for her sense of responsibility and integrity.

At least, that's how she appears on the surface...

In the past, Tomobe served as her caretaker, but now they are almost entirely estranged.

She has a toxic relationship with her younger sister, Aoi, one that could escalate into deadly conflict.

Demon Moon Kocho

170 cm, 61 kg, 92/61/87

An old exorcist with a languid, sultry air about her.

Although she appears to be a beautiful woman in her mid-twenties, in reality, she is the second wife of the previous head of the family and the mother of four children.

While her abilities as an exorcist are formidable, her true specialty lies in scheming, plotting, and working behind the scenes.

In "Fireflies in the Night," she is infamous for orchestrating the downfall of many other heroines, making Tomobe deeply wary of her.

She harbors an unusual obsession with Tomobe.

Demon Moon Shisui

184 cm, 82 kg

The head of the Demon Moon family's servant corps, possessing a strikingly handsome appearance.

His heterochromatic eyes each house a unique supernatural ability, granting him the power of mystical sight.

In the unlikely event that the servant corps were to rebel, he alone has the capability to annihilate them.

Although he was once the most promising candidate to become the next head of the Demon Moon family, he chose to step down, believing that one of the current head's daughters becoming the leader would bring a brighter future to the family.

He is the very person who purchased Tomobe from a remote village and brought him to the Demon Moon family.

Demon Moon Uemon

185 cm, 150 kg

185 cm, 155 kg

[From Chapter Six Onward]

185 cm, 158 kg

[From Chapter Nine Onward]

The head of the Demon Moon family's covert operatives and the uncle of Aoi and Hina. He is also the fourth son of Kocho.

While his abilities as an exorcist are only average for a prestigious family like Demon Moon, he possesses extraordinary talent in commerce and political strategy.

Despite his obese physique, he moves with astonishing speed in battle, living up to his title as the head of the covert operatives.

He is not a virtuous person, but neither is he as overtly villainous as his appearance might suggest.

Interestingly, he is a devoted husband, though neither he nor his wife seems to realize it, resulting in a somewhat awkward relationship between them.

That said, he is known for being petty and vindictive, holding grudges over even minor past incidents.

Currently, he is considered one of the most overworked individuals in the Demon Moon family.

Demon Moon Yuusei

183 cm, 65 kg

The 18th head of the Demon Moon family. His full name is Yuusei Tameshiki Demon Moon, and he is the current family head, as well as the father of Aoi and Hina.

In the original story, fans gave him the nickname "Yandere Psycho Father."

Demon Moon Sumire

165 cm, 53 kg, 90/61/84

The lawful wife of Yuusei, hailing from the prestigious Akou family, and the mother of Aoi.

Although she did not appear in "Fireflies in the Night,"...

Demon Moon Ayaka

151 cm, 40 kg, 77/54/79

159 cm, 43 kg, 80/56/81

[From Chapter Six Onward]

A young girl from the Demon Moon family.

She is an exorcist whose primary weapon is a bow. Unlike most exorcists, she possesses a kind and gentle heart, but because of this, her fate in "Fireflies in the Night" can only be described as tragic.

She harbors feelings for someone in the covert operatives.

Demon Moon Touya

180 cm, 77 kg

An exorcist from the Demon Moon family. While he has a sharp tongue, he is not inherently a bad person.

He has known Ayaka and her love interest since long ago.

In the original story, he was a nameless disposable character, while in fan works, he is often portrayed as a rival figure, similar to Gilgamesh in tone and attitude.

He possesses the unique ability "Pure Flames."

This is highly effective against yokai but completely powerless in battles against humans.

Demon Moon Kotsuzu

140 cm, 74/53/75

The much younger second wife of Demon Moon Uemon.

Her appearance is even more youthful than her already young age suggests. She holds deep affection for her husband, but their relationship is strained and unfulfilled due to various factors.

In "Fireflies in the Night," her story takes a horrifying and tragic turn that is too unsettling to describe.

The Demon Moon Family's Servants

Each servant serves under the Demon Moon family for their own unique reasons.

Shiro

126 cm, 33 kg, 62/54/64

136 cm, 37 kg, 67/55/66

[From Chapter Six Onward]

A half-demon girl with the blood of a mystical fox, whom the servants encountered in the capital. When they first met her, she was suffering from amnesia. At her core, she is a pure-hearted, timid, and earnest young girl.

Shiro Wakamaru

128 cm, 38 kg

134 cm, 40 kg, 65/58/67

[From Chapter Six Onward]

A distrustful boy with a delicate appearance often mistaken for a girl. Born to a poor farming family, he was sent to Enrei Temple as a burden to reduce the mouths to feed. However, due to his latent spiritual power and the trouble it caused, he was eventually taken in by the Demon Moon family.

In the original story, if the player does not intervene, he usually meets a grim fate.

At the end of grueling excavation work, he finally underwent metamorphosis.

Hayama

166 cm, 53 kg

A member of the Demon Moon's shadow corps. He is the object of Ayaka Onikizuki's affection. Hayama has a youthful face and a kind-hearted personality. However, due to a certain incident in the past, he carries a sense of guilt toward someone.

Later, he changes his name to Kuroha.

Miyamizu Shizuka

164 cm, 46 kg, 84/54/81

A household servant under the protection of the Demon Moon family, working in an auxiliary support role. She holds deep respect and admiration for her superior, mentor, and benefactor, Onikizuki Omizu.

Shizuka possesses unique abilities that combine earth-based and water-based techniques.

Kuga Sarujiro

170 cm, 70 kg

A man serving as a tool specialist for the Demon Moon family, holding a role as a craftsman. He is familiar with Hina and Tomobe from their childhood. Sarujiro is skilled at navigating social situations with ease.

Zashiki Warashi

140 cm, 74/55/70

The Demon Moon Family's Shikigami

The countless shikigami employed by the Demon Moon family.

Koyo

Hina's shikigami: a golden dragon that soars across the heavens.

Once captured and bound by a contract with the Demon Moon family, Koyo is considered a precious "asset."

Currently, only Hina is capable of commanding this mainline shikigami.

In the original game's setting, Koyo was obtainable late in the story, but in this world, Hina already possesses it from the very first chapter.

Soten

Aoi's shikigami: a massive, white divine hawk.

One of the three mainline shikigami under Aoi's command, its origin is detailed in ancient court records and traditional lore.

In the original story, a series of events led to its demise, reducing it to "roast bird."

Choei

Aoi's invisible shikigami.

Another of the three mainline shikigami under Aoi's command, Chohei wields a stretchy, durable, and highly flexible tongue as its weapon.

Its true form is the mythical beast "Chameleon," known from continental folklore.

The Akou Family

A historically renowned family of exorcists based in Nishitsu.

Akou Murasaki

147 cm, 40 kg, 73/52/75

153 cm, 45 kg, 76/55/79

(Post Chapter 6)

A petite girl with a bob-cut of purple hair and a childlike face. She is the younger cousin of Kizuki Aoi and the youngest daughter among the seven siblings of the Akou family, a prestigious exorcist lineage in Nishitsu.

Although she possesses decent natural talent as an exorcist, befitting someone from a noble family, her skills are significantly inferior compared to her siblings, and she has a tendency to make critical mistakes. She admires Aoi, whom she reverently calls "Cousin Sister," but Aoi treats her dismissively.

She is a walking embodiment of death flags.

Murasaki wields the Negiri Kubisogi-maru, a cursed blade passed down within the Akou family, known for its relative ease of use among the family's mystical swords.

Akou Seiichirou Yukinari

190 cm, 89 kg

The heir of the Akou family's main branch.

Blessed with handsome features, he is the most gentle and sincere among his kin. Seiichirou is a saintly figure who neither doubts, suspects, nor scorns others. Despite his kindhearted and trusting nature, he is an unparalleled transcendent who can face and overcome traps, schemes, and ambushes head-on.

Akou Touma Hakusaburou

173 cm, 65 kg

The fourth son of the Akou family's main branch, a slender young man.

He possesses the skill to rival Kizuki Aoi in combat.

Though he genuinely cherishes his younger sister, his lack of expressive emotion often leads her to misunderstand his intentions.

The Matsushige Family

An exorcist family based in the capital.

Matsushige Botan

144 cm, 41 kg, 77/55/78

146 cm, 37 kg, 79/54/78 (Post Chapter Six)

146 cm, 43 kg, 79/55/78 (Post Chapter Nine)

A petite exorcist girl with red hair and fair skin.

In the original story, she was a minor character with only a background setting and no illustrated appearance. Acting under the instructions of her grandfather, Matsushige Dōken, she monitors and supports Banbu.

Her hummingbird-style shikigami, predominantly blue and green in color, is used to surveil Banbu. Though small in size, this shikigami excels in stealth missions and possesses versatile high-performance capabilities.

As for Botan herself, she resides far away in the capital.

Once afflicted by the "Three Corpse Worms" implanted in her body by a man who was once her mentor, she ultimately makes a critical decision...

Matsushige Dōken

160 cm, 60 kg (appears shorter due to a hunched posture)

A skilled and elderly exorcist wanted by authorities, whom Banbu encounters in the capital.

Formerly the Vice Chief and Acting Director of the Onmyō Bureau's Saikū Research Institute.

In the original story, his role varies depending on the player's choices—he can become either an ally or an enemy. For decades, he held the second-highest rank in the Onmyō Bureau, a place teeming with overwhelmingly powerful supernatural beings.

While he has more of a researcher's temperament than a fighter's, his combat abilities rank among the top even within the exorcist community.

Genbu

Matsushige Dōken's shikigami, appearing as a one-horned giant bear. A pitiable creature.

In the light novel and manga adaptations, Genbu and the other shikigami appear with character illustrations. However, they are typically turned into minced meat along with their allies by the next page

The Tachibana Family

A prominent merchant family operating a large trading company across the entirety of Fusōkoku (The Land of Fusō).

Tachibana Kayo

144 cm, 40 kg, 77/59/78

152 cm, 43 kg, 81/56/79 (Post Chapter 6)

The only daughter of the head of the Tachibana Trading Company, a noble family renowned for its expansive business ventures. A lover of fine clothing and a connoisseur of fashion.

In the original Fireflies of the Dark Night, she plays the role of a shopkeeper for the item store, serving as a minor character with dialogue often laced with a subtle darkness.

In this story, her interactions with Banbu have led to a distortion in her preferences and inclinations.

O-Tsuru

170 cm, 56 kg

An elderly maid who has long served the Tachibana family.

Tachibana Kagesue

162 cm, 62 kg

The head of the Tachibana family and Kayo's father.

Tachibana Ai

159 cm, 50 kg, 82/55/81

The wife of Kagesue, also known as Lady Tachibana, and Kayo's mother.

A second-generation immigrant of Nanban descent and a former popular salesgirl.

Reo

148 cm, 47 kg

A blond-haired, black-eyed boy hired by Tachibana Kayo. He's described as a charming and adorable young boy (shota).

The Hotaruya Family

A village head family governing a peaceful settlement.

Hotaruya Hotoya Tamaki

157 cm, 45 kg, 80/57/81

The daughter of the landlord, she possesses jet-black hair akin to a crow's feathers and an androgynous appearance.

The landlord, or shōya, is one of the three key village officials responsible for local governance under the oversight of regional deputies or magistrates, acting as the village head.

Although revered as a noble "princess," she frequently mingles with the villagers, taking the initiative in tasks like rice planting and fieldwork.

A kind-hearted individual, she treats her servants with genuine camaraderie.

For the protagonist of this story, she represents a certain kind of despair.

Suzune

154 cm, 43 kg, 78/56/80

A maid serving in the Hotaruya household.

While her temperament is fiery, she is also a natural caretaker.

She laments the injustices of the world.

Iruka

163 cm, 57 kg, 87/56/85

A half-demon servant bound to the Hotaruya family.

When she was first encountered in a tattered and pitiable state, she was taken in out of compassion and subsequently employed.

Hotaruya Yoshinori

168 cm, 72 kg

The head of the Hotaruya family.

A kind-hearted, family-oriented man of integrity.

He possesses a rational and thoughtful approach to village matters while deeply cherishing his loved ones.

Inoe Katahiko

187 cm, 74 kg

Originally the younger brother of the lord of Inozuno Domain, the largest southern domain housing a powerful samurai faction.

Due to his unruly behavior, he was dismissed from court service.

Later, he was hired by the Hotaruya village's magistrate and became the leader of guards and mercenaries tasked with handling demons and bandits.

In the story "Firefly of the Dark Night," he was the protagonist's mentor, but...

Demons (Monsters)

Creatures that prey on and torment humans.

Sekihatsu Soudoji (Red-Haired Blue Child)

178 cm, 58 kg, 86/57/84

A red-haired, green-eyed female demon. She is violent, selfish, and utterly self-centered. Despite her nature, she interacts amicably with the protagonist.

However, crossing her or doing something she dislikes may result in a very real chance of being reduced to mincemeat on a whim. Simply engaging in conversation with her feels like walking a tightrope.

Once feared in the capital as one of the "Four Calamities," she originates from the continent.

Kori Shiraki

165 cm, 60 kg, 85/55/86

A sensual and stunningly beautiful woman, she is a fox demon known for her cruelty.

As a character in Fireflies of the Night, she is infamous for her malicious personality, rivaling others in the story for being one of the most heartless individuals.

While a fox demon in essence, her strength lies more in raw physical power than illusionary magic.

Kouka

167 cm, 58 kg, 84/56/88

Another fox demon, Kouka epitomizes what one would expect from a traditional fox demon.

She has a sadistic streak and a penchant for cruelty.

She has known Kori Shiraki for a long time.

Yōbo (Demon Mother)

Her body is endlessly malleable.

A self-proclaimed "Mother of All," she is an enigmatic and suspicious entity (fiend). Once a fallen deity, she now exists as a twisted shadow of her former divinity.

Those consumed and "reborn" by her invariably transform into grotesque, monstrous abominations. From her perspective, however, her actions are motivated by pure goodwill, 100% of the time.

Tsuchigumo (Earth Spider)

Appearance and form change constantly.

True to its name, it is a spider fiend. Once considered one of the "Four Calamities," it is a malicious and dangerous entity.

After its defeat in the Great Human-Fiend War, it retreated underground, plotting revenge against humanity. In the original story, it serves as a minor background character. However, in the manga adaptation, it plays a throwaway role, having its head crushed by an unnamed priestess. A perpetual loser.

Kogumo (A Small Spider)

(≧∀≦)ノ

Yuka

159 cm, 44 kg, 73/54/79

A fiendish kamaitachi (sickle weasel) who survived since the era of the Great War.

Although she tries to appear intelligent, her true nature is repulsive.

Rouya

152 cm, 44 kg, 89/56/83

A fiendish black wolf that escorts wandering souls.

She accompanies Yuka, to whom she owes a great debt.

Nue

Appearance unknown.

One of the "Four Calamities."

Records state that it was vanquished during the ancient war, but...

Kamui

176 cm, 76 kg

A man who defected to the fiends' side. He carries out various covert operations under orders from a certain entity.

The essence of a shadowy yokai has been implanted within him.

Kuubou

Appearance unknown.

The leader of the fiends during the ancient war. Among the fiends, Kuubou is considered one of the most rational and intelligent beings, displaying extraordinary compassion (by fiend standards).

Currently sealed away.

Others

Agatsuma Hibari

164 cm, 45 kg, 83/55/82

A former head of the Onmyō Bureau, she now works at a terakoya (village school) while caring for half-yōkai children who have nowhere to go in the capital.

Her true form is that of a half-tanuki yōkai.

One of the few female characters without major personality "landmines," but in Fireflies of the Dark Night, she is deceived and devoured by the treacherous schemes of Kori Byakuya before the main story begins.

A rare living witness to the Great Human-Yōkai War.

Magoroku

175 cm, 78 kg

A man encountered by Banbu during his work in the capital's underground waterways.

He likely holds Banbu in higher regard than any of the heroines do.

Mari

130 cm, 32 kg, 61/53/65

146 cm, 42 kg, 83/56/84

(Post-Chapter Six)

Magoroku's younger sister. Blind. Although Banbu is unaware, she is a semi-official character from a fan-made manga.

She was frail during her time living alone with her brother, but her physical condition improved significantly after their diet was better managed, leading to noticeable growth and a fuller figure.
