Chapter 3

Melody didn't come home all night.

The next day, I set out for the dance troupe alone.

Today was the day Melody and I were supposed to attend Fintan's celebration party for his promotion to principal dancer.

Since becoming paralyzed three years ago, I hadn't set foot in this place where I had once achieved countless honors.

After the accident, the dance troupe was quickly bought by Melody.

At the time, she told me that she felt this place carried my past, and she wanted to preserve these memories for me.

Looking back now, from beginning to end, she was only aiming to personally place her beloved Fintan on the throne of principal dancer!

I smiled bitterly, my gaze coincidentally meeting Melody's as she stepped out of the car arm-in-arm with Fintan.

She walked over quickly:

"Sorry, sweetie. The road was blocked last night, so I couldn't make it back."

I didn't care about her excuses and just nodded faintly.

As Melody was about to explain further, Fintan suddenly came forward to take control of my wheelchair:

"Auntie, there are so many industry bigwigs over there who want to chat with you! I'll keep Uncle company here, so you can go socialize without worrying~"

Melody hesitated, glancing at me before leaving.

Actually, after Fintan and my ex-fiancée betrayed me, I had no private interactions with him.

Often, our interactions were only due to my connection with Melody. I wasn't sure why he suddenly became friendly with me.

Before I could speak, Fintan pushed me towards the dance troupe's hall of fame.

All my performance photos, certificates, and trophies that were once here had been removed, replaced by his pictures and accolades.

Fintan dropped the act, his smug voice coming from above me:

"So what if you were a child prodigy? Moritz, now you're nothing but dirt beneath my feet!"

As he spoke, he walked in front of me, showing off his legs:

"See these top-of-the-line alligator skin shoes on my feet? Auntie had them custom-made by a luxury brand to congratulate me on becoming the principal dancer!"

"Do you like them, Uncle? Oh, I forgot, Uncle, you're paralyzed now. Even if you liked them, you couldn't wear such precious shoes anymore!"

"Oh right, I'm in a good mood today, so I'll be merciful and tell you a secret! Auntie and I aren't blood-related at all~ Not only that, we even secretly dated for several years! When she agreed to marry you, it was because I had my eye on your fiancée. I didn't want you getting in the way, so I asked her to reel you in.

"Oh Moritz, you're so pathetic now! You can't outdo me in dancing anymore, and even the woman who married you was my castoff. If I were you, I'd have died of shame by now."

I looked up at him.

"Shouldn't you be the one ashamed? You couldn't match my skills, so you only got your chance when I injured my leg. With your poor dancing talent, have you ever considered changing careers?"

Fintan, stung by my words, angrily kicked my wheelchair.

"Bastard! You're nothing but a cripple now, yet you still dare to act high and mighty in front of me!"

As he furiously pushed my wheelchair towards the garden pond outside the dance studio, he sneered:

"I bet your dear auntie loves to call you Candy in bed, doesn't she?"

"You know, I have a nickname too - Candy. It's because I loved sweets as a kid, and my aunt gave me that name!"

"Moritz, I'm going to make you watch as I take everything from you! Let's do an experiment, shall we? You can see for yourself who your precious wife really cares about!"

Fintan finished speaking, then pulled my wheelchair, causing both of us to tumble into the pool together.
