Chapter 9

Melody froze at my words, her expression one of excruciating pain.

She reached out to wipe away my tears, but I turned my head to avoid her touch.

"We were married after all. You may have hurt me initially, but you also saved me. Now everything's squared away. From this point on, we owe each other nothing. Please don't come disturbing my new life anymore!"

I turned to leave, but Melody suddenly grabbed me as if she'd gone mad:

"No... Moritz, I don't want us to be even! I don't want to owe you nothing!"

"There must be a way for you to forgive me! There must be!"

Her eyes were bloodshot as she clutched her head, seemingly wracking her brain for ideas.

The next moment, her eyes lit up:

"I've got it! I know what to do, Moritz!"

"If I go through the same pain you did, you'll definitely forgive me, right!?"

Melody rambled on, suddenly pulling me towards the door.
