Chapter 1

My husband returned home with his pregnant mistress in tow.

He snarled at me viciously, "You're just a housewife who's done nothing to help my career. We've been married for years and you can't even get pregnant. You think you still deserve a place in my home?"

"Do you know who this woman is? She's the daughter of Ms. Thornton, the richest person in the country. I'm going to be the son-in-law of the wealthiest family. That's way out of your poor little league."

"If you know what's good for you, pack your things and get out now. We're getting divorced."

I was stunned. These days it's bad enough when people steal husbands.

Now they're even stealing identities?

How come I never knew my dad had another daughter?

1

Married to my husband for three years.

Every year, I alone bustle to prepare our family's New Year's Eve dinner.

But I always think that in the end, my husband will praise me a bit.

So despite feeling somewhat aggrieved, on New Year's Eve this year,

I still start preparing the festive meal.

However, just as I finish cooking, I discover my husband has brought home his pregnant mistress.

He smugly places his hand on the mistress's visibly swollen belly.

Then he snarls at me viciously: "Once you've finished cooking, get out. There's no place for you in this home anymore."

"Just look at yourself. If it weren't for my grandma being sick and needing care back then, I would never have married you. And what about you? You've been here for three years and can't even get pregnant. You don't deserve to stay in my house."

"Get out of here now."

The mistress raises her eyebrows at me triumphantly, not forgetting to play the role of the good person.

She even has the audacity to call my husband right in front of me: "Honey, don't be so harsh. After all, she's been taking care of your grandma for so many years. At least let her finish the New Year's Eve dinner before she goes."

I quickly realize what's happening.

When I first married Kevin, he told me,

His grandmother was bedridden, and his parents often fought over caring for her.

Without hesitation, I took on all the responsibilities of looking after his grandmother.Feeding her, giving her water, bathing her daily.

I took care of every little thing, big and small.

Until two months ago when Grandma passed away peacefully. Though I was sad for a while,

I also felt like a weight had been lifted.

Just when I thought things were looking up,

Kellan dropped a bombshell on me out of the blue.

Looking at the man before me,

I thought about how I had cut ties with my parents for his sake back then.

Anger immediately welled up inside me.

Kellan continued:

"Darling, you're just too kind-hearted and nice. How can someone without even parents be worthy of sitting at the same table and eating with us? What if it brings bad luck to our sweetheart?"

I chuckled softly.

Since I had cut ties with my parents, I hadn't visited my family home once in these three years.

He just assumed I was an orphan.

But now, I had to admit, my parents had keen insight.

I was even a bit grateful they had severed ties with me early on. Otherwise, as the daughter of the richest family,

Kellan would surely try to take a share of my assets in our divorce.

Kellan's affair had already crossed my bottom line.

Of course I wouldn't stay here any longer.

But if he wants me to leave, that's fine. But I had prepared the New Year's Eve dinner. Why should I leave it for them?

Just as I was about to go forward and flip over the table, I heard some unbelievable words:

"Do you know who this is? She's Melody, the daughter of Ms. Thornton, the richest woman in the country. I'm going to be the son-in-law of the wealthiest family. You're just a housewife who could never measure up."

"Just look at what you're wearing from head to toe. You reek of poverty. If I wasn't looking for a free caretaker for grandma, I wouldn't even glance at someone like you."

"Let me tell you, you're not even worth a single strand of Melody's hair."

My hand, poised to flip the table, froze in confusion. I was stunned.

The richest woman, Ms. Thornton? Isn't that my dad?

I'm the only daughter in my family. How come I never knew my dad had another daughter?

Could it be my dad's love child?

I stopped my actions and asked:
