Without consulting Johnny, Peter directly called Araban Laixuan.
"Is there something urgent for me to call you?"
On the other side of the phone, Laixuan, head of Huangban Group, heard Peter's words and immediately responded, "Peter, I need a favor."
"Say it quickly. I don't have much time," Peter replied, clearly uninterested in small talk.
Laixuan continued, "There's a technician in our company who holds critical information. It's all proprietary data of Huangban Group. The people from Military Technology have snatched him away. I need someone outside our company to retrieve him. You can kill him if necessary."
Peter was perplexed by Laixuan's request. He couldn't understand why Laixuan, someone known for ruthlessness, was so concerned with company property, especially after having so much influence.
And there was something even stranger—Peter remembered that Kang Tao and Herman had reached some sort of agreement in the game, yet now this situation was tied to Military Technology.
But one thing was clear: Herman had no morals.
"Fine, but if I bring him back alive, what's the reward?"
Peter's tone was blunt. He and Laixuan had no past cooperation other than this job. This was their first collaboration, and Peter wanted to be clear about the price.
"I'll pay you 10 million if he's alive. If you bring him dead, it'll be 5 million," Laixuan replied. "Just make sure he doesn't fall into Military Technology's hands."
Peter chuckled at the offer. Laixuan, the current ruler of Huangban Group, was wealthy and influential, and Peter had no doubt the job would come with a hefty sum. However, Laixuan's hold over his empire was evident, and even though Hanako Arata was in Japan, Peter didn't know what she was up to. Laixuan was firmly in control now.
"Alright, I'll wait for your good news," Peter said before hanging up.
Shortly after, Laixuan sent over a route map detailing Military Technology's personnel movement.
Peter glanced at it briefly. He recognized the area—exactly where he thought it would be. The time was set for the early hours of tomorrow, which worked in his favor. No need to cause any major disruptions like blowing up signal towers or anything complex. He had a simpler solution—he could just fly and land a punch.
With his newly awakened ability, this should be easy.
Peter woke up when it was time to prepare for the mission. He kissed Lucy on the cheek, careful not to disturb her, and quietly slipped out of their room.
Dressed and ready, Peter soared into the sky, heading directly to the location from the message.
When Peter arrived, the convoy of floating vehicles was just passing by. It was surrounded by four or five other floating vehicles, presumably filled with armed personnel from Military Technology.
As Peter approached the convoy, the personnel quickly spotted him.
"Alert! Suspicious person approaching! Suspicious person?"
The guard who had been monitoring the surroundings froze. At first, he thought it was just a regular malfunction, but as soon as he noticed Peter's figure in the air, he realized something was wrong. How could someone be flying?
Before they could react, Peter's eyes glowed a deep red, and within seconds, two extremely hot rays shot out, piercing one of the escorting vehicles.
"F**k! We're under attack! Call for reinforcements, quick! Everyone land!"
The commander of Military Technology's largest floating vehicle saw one of the escorting vehicles get shot down and ordered a retreat.
Without wasting another second, the entire convoy began descending toward the ground, and Peter rubbed his eyes.
Though his thermal vision ability was impressive, using it for the first time made Peter's eyes ache. It took a few moments for him to recover.
As the vehicles descended, Peter flew toward the largest one, landing a heavy punch on it.
Boom!
The vehicle hit the ground hard, crashing with a speed that seemed unnatural, yet the impact didn't stop there.
Seeing this, the remaining armed personnel began firing on Peter. Their mission was crucial, and if the target—the technician—wasn't rescued, they'd likely face severe consequences.
Peter didn't hesitate. His thermal vision activated again, and with a quick sweep, he cut all the floating vehicles in half with deadly precision.
Boom!
A massive explosion erupted in the sky, sending flames and debris flying. The vehicles that had been falling to the ground after Peter's punch were already in freefall.
The commander of Military Technology, along with Herman, who had been in the largest floating vehicle, watched the fiery chaos unfold. Peter's figure stood eerily against the backdrop of flames, with the wreckage of the floating vehicles falling behind him—a chilling reminder of how dangerous he was.
"Mr. Herman, get in the car and follow us now!"
The commander shouted in desperation. He had no intention of facing Peter directly. Reinforcements from the ground were on their way, and all they needed to do now was buy time.
But Herman didn't respond to the commander. Instead, he stared at Peter in the sky, suddenly recalling a conversation from a few weeks ago. He remembered a colleague mentioning a strange video—one where a man had crushed a cyber-psychopath. The weird part was that they couldn't scan the body data from the video.
"Is this the guy from that video?" Herman thought, though he didn't have time to dwell on it.
Before he could finish his thought, Peter descended directly in front of him. As the rifles and machine guns of the military personnel aimed at him, Peter simply glanced at them and hacked into their systems.
Within seconds, the soldiers' weapons were forced to turn on them, and one by one, they shot at themselves.
"Araban Laixuan asked me to come to you," Peter said calmly.
Before Herman could respond, Peter delivered a devastating punch to his face, knocking him unconscious.
Hours later, Herman awoke in a cheap motel room. He glanced around and saw Peter sitting cross-legged on the floor, staring at him with a look of quiet amusement.
Herman swallowed nervously.
"Sir, what kind of benefits did Laixuan offer you to make you cross Military Technology? If you give me a number, I'm sure Military Technology will offer you that much!"
Herman's voice trembled with urgency. "And it doesn't matter if you don't hand me over to them! You can contact Kang Tao! There are people on his side who know who I am, and they'll reward you handsomely for handing me over to him!"
"I have valuable confidential information on Araban's technology! Please, just let me go, and I promise you'll get everything you need!"
Herman pleaded, unable to hide his fear. The thought of being captured by Laixuan's men filled him with dread. Who knew what barbaric methods they would use on him? He couldn't bear to think about it.
