Chapter 34: Be My Informant!

Chapter 34: Be My Informant!

Trust went both ways.

Since Green had shared everything, Asahi no longer felt the need to hide his identity.

He pulled out his identification and handed it to her.

Green opened it and read aloud, "International Police… Kanto Division, Inspector—Asahi?"

Her eyes widened as she stared at him.

She had never imagined that Asahi was part of the International Police!

"Actually, I'm about to be promoted to Senior Inspector. A few days ago, I captured a Team Rocket group trying to catch Mew," Asahi corrected her.

As Green worked to calm her shock, many of her doubts were resolved.

No wonder he had access to the League's database.

No wonder Professor Oak had let him decide the fate of the Squirtle she had stolen.

No wonder he was so wealthy… though that last part didn't seem entirely tied to his position.

"Now that you know my identity, what's your plan?" Asahi asked.

Hearing this, Green's heart skipped a beat. If Asahi was part of the International Police and had access to the League's database...

"I want… to find my parents!"

Green looked at Asahi with hopeful eyes.

Having been kidnapped as a child and spending twelve years trapped in the Masked Army, she had finally escaped and regained her freedom. While she wanted to live as a normal trainer and travel, her greatest wish was to reunite with her parents.

Even though twelve years had passed and her memories of her parents had become blurry, her desire to see them had only grown stronger.

Hearing Green's request, Asahi nodded. "Your parents, huh? Got it. I'll help you find them."

As a member of the International Police, Asahi had the authority to access the League's database. Finding someone was an easy task.

However, since he was only part of the Kanto division, he could only access records from Kanto and the closely linked Johto region. If Green's parents weren't in those regions, he would need Wataru's help.

Green didn't mind this at all.

The fact that Asahi was willing to help her was already enough to make her feel deeply grateful.

And after waiting twelve years, what difference would a little longer make?

As the possibility of fulfilling her lifelong wish drew closer, Green felt a surreal sense of disbelief.

"Is there anything I can do to help you?" Green asked.

Had Asahi not already expressed his lack of interest in the Silver Wing and Rainbow Wing, she might have offered those as a token of gratitude.

Hearing her question, Asahi's expression shifted slightly. "If you're asking… there is something I'd like to discuss with you."

"What is it?"

"Would you consider joining the International Police as my informant?"

...

An informant was an external member of the International Police, primarily tasked with providing intelligence or assisting in specific operations.

When Asahi asked Green if she wanted to become his informant, she froze for a moment.

Green pointed at herself. "An informant? Me? Are you sure I can do that?"

She was still technically under probation for the Squirtle incident, and she worried that her skills might hinder Asahi's work.

Seeing her concerns, Asahi chuckled. "The Squirtle matter is only known to three people: you, me, and Professor Oak."

"I won't talk about it. As for Professor Oak, he's already forgiven you. Once I tell him about your background, I doubt he'll have any issues. You're not planning to broadcast it yourself, are you?"

Green shook her head. She wasn't stupid.

"As for your skills… don't underestimate yourself. The battle strategies you've displayed are already quite good. Sure, you're not on my level, but I'm an exception."

"Besides, your personality, infiltration abilities, and knack for disguise make you a perfect fit for the job."

Green's personality?

She was clever and cunning!

Though Asahi's strength often overshadowed her, preventing her from showing her true potential, he believed that if she faced someone like the Team Rocket members he had dealt with before, she could easily outmaneuver them.

Hearing Asahi's words, Green felt like he understood her even better than she understood herself.

"Finally," Asahi added, "you mentioned escaping from the Masked Man and stealing the Silver Wing and Rainbow Wing. Do you really think he'll let you go so easily? Joining the International Police isn't just about helping me—it's also about protecting yourself. Who knows? You might even get the chance to personally bring down the Masked Army someday."

This last point was the final straw.

It was true. She had escaped, but would the Masked Man really leave her alone?

And what about Silver, the boy she had always treated as a younger brother?

With all these thoughts swirling in her mind, Green made her decision.

"I'll join!"

Whether it was to repay Asahi or to protect herself, becoming his informant seemed like the right choice.

"Welcome!"

Hearing Green's answer, Asahi immediately stood up and shook her hand.

As they shook hands, he added, "Honestly, if joining the International Police didn't require such strict testing, and if my current rank were higher, I would've directly invited you to become a full member."

"…?"

Green gave him a skeptical look. Asahi's enthusiasm seemed a bit excessive.

Could it be that the task they were working on was extremely difficult?

Curious, she stroked her Clefairy's head and cautiously asked, "Is our current mission very tough?"

"Tough? Hmm, maybe just a little, but since there's no deadline and no strict order to complete it, it's fairly relaxed," Asahi replied.

Recalling how Asahi had spent the past few days idly picking on rookie trainers, Green nodded in agreement.

If it were an urgent mission, there was no way they'd have been this leisurely.

"When can I meet my colleagues?"

Now that her safety was assured and her parents would soon be found, Green thought it might be nice to make some friends. She seemed excited at the idea.

However, Asahi's evasive gaze gave her a bad feeling.

"Cough, cough. About your colleagues… well, there's been a little accident."

Green's premonition grew stronger.

Then she heard Asahi explain, "During a previous operation, some of your colleagues—who are also my predecessors—ran into a bit of trouble. A portion of them were captured by Team Rocket."

Green pursed her lips. "A portion? How many are left?"

Hearing her question, so similar to the one he had once asked Wataru, Asahi finally understood how his superior must have felt back then.

With a sigh, Asahi raised five fingers and gently patted Green's shoulder.
