Chapter 1: Hikigaya, You're on TV!
"Tick-tock… tick-tock…"
Time slowly passed. In the dimly lit room, a boy continuously typed on his keyboard.
"Still clearing the jungle!"
"Boom, boom—"
"Failed!"
The sound of the base explosion echoed through his headphones once more—another loss today.
"Akira Saito, what are you doing? Don't you want to play anymore?"
The noisy voices of his friends filled the headphones, but Akira slowly took them off. He had tried his best to turn the tide, but the result was the same.
As he removed his headphones, the room became eerily quiet, save for the ticking of the clock beside him.
Taking a deep breath, Akira mustered up his courage and put the headphones back on, ready to face the inevitable complaints.
"Tick-tock… tick-tock…"
This time, silence greeted him.
"Hey? Did you all go mute after complaining?"
Suddenly, a strange, mechanical voice echoed in his ears.
[Start scanning the host's physical condition...]
[Broadcasting system being implanted...]
"What… what the hell is this?" Akira blurted out, his voice trembling.
Calling out his friends' names, he was met with no response. Uneasy, he yanked the headphones off again, but the voice continued to ring in his ears.
[Scanning host: 3… 2… 1… confirmed.]
[Host: Akira Saito. Generating reward mechanism...]
"Oh, no... What is happening?" Akira whispered, his legs trembling uncontrollably.
He scrambled toward the door, hoping to escape the bizarre situation.
"Bang!"
He tugged and twisted the doorknob desperately, but the door wouldn't budge.
[Congratulations! You have successfully awakened the Broadcasting System.]
[Mission: Edit and broadcast a video to receive a significant reward and leave this world.]
Hearing the task, Akira froze. Realizing there was no way out, he returned to his desk, heart pounding.
The game he'd been playing had disappeared, replaced by video editing software.
According to the system's instructions, he needed to create a video that satisfied the audience. Only then could he escape—and claim the bonus.
Akira thought for a moment. He couldn't make something ordinary. If the audience wasn't impressed, he'd be stuck here forever.
Then, an idea struck him. He thought of someone perfect—a peculiar character he admired. Calm and composed, he was once called a "rational monster."
"If I edit videos about him, I'm sure they'll attract attention!"
His fingers hovered over the keyboard.
"I choose you, Hikigaya Hachiman!"
Without wasting any more time, Akira got to work.

At the Service Club…
The members of the Service Club were discussing solutions for Isshiki Iroha's latest request.
Having just become the new student council president with Hikigaya Hachiman's help, Iroha was relying on him to clean up her messes.
The weight of responsibility fell squarely on Hikigaya's shoulders.
But as he was about to speak, a voice suddenly echoed around the room.
[Chat broadcast being established...]
"Did you hear that just now?"
"Yes."
"Uh-huh…"
Everyone fell silent as their phones vibrated simultaneously.
Hikigaya reluctantly pulled his phone from his pocket. Normally, only his parents or Komachi ever messaged him.
But there was nothing from them this time, just a notification of a group chat he'd been added to.
Yuigahama's voice broke the silence.
"Look, we're all in this chat group!"
Sure enough, the group included not just the Service Club but their classmates, along with people Hikigaya didn't even recognize.
'What kind of joke is this?' he wondered.
Just then, messages began appearing in the chat.
---
[Horikita Suzune]: "It seems everyone heard that strange voice."
[Sudo]: "I thought I was hallucinating at first."
[Ichinose Honami]: "It's not just our school—this is huge."
[Satou Kazuma]: "Different dimensions? Maybe this group chat connects us all."
For some, like Subaru Natsuki and Kazuma Sato, dimensional travel wasn't entirely surprising. But even they were puzzled by the group's purpose.
Before they could dwell on it, the voice returned.
[Hikigaya Hachiman's Classroom of Strength]
[Playback starting...]
In the Service Club, Hikigaya coughed nervously. He'd hoped to stay on the sidelines, but now he seemed to be the center of attention.
Yukinoshita Yukino covered her face, hiding her expression.
"Your sense of presence isn't exactly low, so stop pretending otherwise," she said.
"This is just an accident. Even if I'm in the spotlight, it won't last long," Hikigaya muttered.
Ignoring him, the group turned their attention to the projection now playing on the screen.

Elsewhere…
In the student council room of another school, Shinomiya Kaguya stared at the TV, bewildered.
"Why did the TV suddenly turn on? Is this someone's prank?"
Shirogane Miyuki glanced at Fujiwara Chika suspiciously.
"It wasn't me!" Chika protested.
The student council huddled together, watching the strange video unfold.

on the Bus…
Youth is a Lie
The screen displayed Hikigaya's familiar monologue.
The so-called youth is a lie—and a sin.
Those who praise youth are deceiving themselves. They maintain a positive facade, twisting common sense and social norms to justify their actions.
To them, even failure becomes the spice of youth. If failure is proof of youth, doesn't that make those who can't make friends the youngest of all?
But they'll never admit that, because it's inconvenient.
Let me conclude: Youth is a lie.
Hikigaya Hachiman found himself in an unfamiliar uniform, sitting on a bus filled with students dressed the same.
"What is this? Some kind of collective time travel?" he muttered.
Before he could make sense of his surroundings, a girl—Kushida Kikyo—spoke up, asking a blond boy to give up his seat for an elderly woman.
The boy refused.
Looking around, Hikigaya noticed none of the students offered their seats.
"It seems everyone's like me—choosing to stay silent to avoid attention," he thought.
