The Cursed Warrior (Part 2)

Varek let them get close, not making a single movement until they were within his reach. 

Killing the Devourers had become child's play for him now. The first few hundred times were difficult, but after that, he'd discovered all of their weaknesses. 

The first insectoid creature lunged. 

At the last possible moment, he stepped aside, his movements effortless, his grip steady. 

The creature's momentum carried it forward, and in that brief instant of vulnerability, Varek struck. 

His blade carved clean through its elongated neck, severing its head in a single stroke. The Devourer crumpled into black mist before it even hit the ground.

The others hesitated.

They were learning.

Not that it mattered. Learning or not, they were predictable.

The next one feinted left before snapping toward him from the right. But Varek was already moving, pivoting on his heel.
