One Versus Twenty

Kael rose and summoned a new shape in his hand. It was a shape he'd never seen before, besides in his mind.

The end of it was thin, perfect for prying. It was long, which would be useful for leverage.

This wasn't a weapon. It was a tool.

Shoving the end of the tool in between the seam of the plating, Kael pried.

The metal didn't move for a moment. Then it began to creak.

The panel bent away from the floor.

Already, Kael could see a faint glow coming from beneath.

Finally, the panel popped loose, and heat blasted his face.

Inside, beneath some kind of cage, was a glowing orb, letting off a greenish-purple hue.

Kael reached out, putting a couple of his fingers through the hole in the cage.

I can override it. Force the transport to come to a stop.

The tips of his fingers touched the orb, and the gem reacted immediately.

Kael tried to focus, but the gem seemed to be taking over his thoughts.
