He sat on a stool over the bartender's cubicle, ordered his vodka, and started sipping his drink, lost in thoughts, his gaze fixed in a direction. A man of his age and size putting on sunshades came behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. Gbenga, his favorite friend. It was a wonder why one would put on sunshades by that time of the night. "Hey guy, what's up!" Gbenga joined him, and they both shook hands.
"Nothing much. I am good." Chris sips from his glass.
"It doesn't seem so. I can't remember the last time you stayed out this late as a married man. Did you read Temi's thoughts again?"
"Not really"
"Then what's the matter?"
"You never forget these sunglasses"
"I can't afford to let you read my thoughts, it isn't fair on me"
They both chuckled, "Now tell me, man, what's up?"
"I just can't think well at home. It is quite suffocating and tempting. I am tempted to kill her"
"Kill? You love her. What did she do this time?"
"You remember I told you that day when she forgot her shades, I was able to read her thoughts that she was having an affair, couldn't figure out who because she was fast enough to put on the glasses but seems like it was with someone I know.
Gbenga sighed, and looked at the bartender who passed him a glass, "Have you figured out who now?"
"Lately, she has been avoiding eye contact with me. Like, she doesn't want me to read her. But now, I know something is wrong. She is pregnant. She is two months pregnant."
"Wow! Isn't that supposed to be a great news?"
"Of course not!" he sighs, "she is not supposed to be two months pregnant. I traveled three months ago and I came back this month. It's possible biologically that the semen must have secured a place in her fallopian tube till she is ovulating but the way she has been avoiding my eyes… I know there is more to it. Like, I trust my wife, trusted actually. You know wetin I dey capable of. Even during dinner, she puts on sunglasses. What do you want me to think?"
Gbenga's countenance changed immediately. "That's really a big problem. I'm just going to go use the restroom briefly, my stomach hurts" he went away while Chris continued with his glass of vodka.
