Chapter 31: Shadows and the Void

Drake vanished into the shadows, the power of the Shadow Cloak enveloping him. The Void Stalkers hissed and screeched, their large, black eyes darting around, trying to locate him. They were clearly disoriented by his sudden disappearance, their unnatural grace faltering.

Drake used this opportunity to his advantage. He moved quickly and silently, using the shadows as his weapon. He reappeared behind one of the Void Stalkers, his short sword flashing in the dim light. The creature let out a high-pitched screech as the blade pierced its pale skin.

The Void Stalker staggered, its body convulsing. It collapsed to the ground, its elongated limbs twitching. The other two Void Stalkers turned their attention to Drake, their eyes filled with a mixture of fear and rage.

Drake didn't give them a chance to react. He used the momentum of his previous attack to launch himself at the second Void Stalker. He channeled the darkness again, his movements becoming even faster, even more precise. He struck with a flurry of blows, his short sword a blur of steel.

The second Void Stalker fell, its body riddled with wounds. The final creature hissed and backed away, its eyes wide with terror. It seemed to realize that it was outmatched.

Drake advanced, his dark aura still swirling around him. The Void Stalker turned and fled towards the chaotic rift, disappearing into the swirling vortex of energy.

Drake watched the rift for a moment, his senses on high alert. He could still feel the chaotic energy emanating from it, a powerful force that seemed to defy the laws of nature. He knew that whatever lay on the other side was dangerous, but he also knew that he had to go through.

He allocated his stat points, focusing primarily on Strength and Constitution, but also adding a point to Dexterity.

*Notification: "Stat Points Allocated: Strength +4. Current Strength: 21."*

*Notification: "Stat Points Allocated: Constitution +4. Current Constitution: 18."*

*Notification: "Stat Points Allocated: Dexterity +1. Current Dexterity: 17."*

He felt a significant increase in his physical capabilities. He was now officially "Strong/Expert" according to the Codex's grading system.

He took a deep breath and stepped towards the rift. The chaotic energy washed over him, making him feel dizzy and disoriented. He felt as if his body was being pulled apart, then put back together again.

Then, he was on the other side.

He found himself in a desolate landscape, a barren wasteland of cracked earth and jagged rocks. The sky was a swirling mass of dark clouds, and the air was thick with a strange, metallic smell.

Drake felt another surge of power, this time a cold, empty feeling that resonated deep within his soul. He felt a connection to the void, a nothingness that existed beyond space and time.

As he stood there, taking in his new surroundings, he felt a sudden shift in the atmosphere. The air grew colder, the wind picked up, and he felt a presence, vast and powerful, watching him.

*Notification: "Divine Attention Gained."*

He looked up at the swirling clouds and saw a brief flash of light, followed by a low rumble that seemed to shake the very foundations of the world. He knew that the Gods had noticed him. They had seen his power, his connection to the darkness and the void. They now considered him a threat.

Drake grinned. This was exactly what he wanted. He wanted to challenge the Gods, to defy their authority, to carve his own path in this new world. He was no longer just a dead comedian. He was something more. Something… chaotic.
