Faith's POV
''Always remember the name Felix."
I woke up with a start, drenched in sweat. My room spun around me, and I struggled to sit up. Wait, I'm in my own apartment. I'm alive. It was just a dream wasn't it?
I checked the time and groaned. Late again. Great, just what I needed , another punishment from the teachers. In a werewolf kingdom, humans like me were already at a disadvantage.
I rushed to the mirror, already running behind. But when I saw my reflection, I jumped back. My face was a mess , cuts and bruises everywhere. What the hell happened? How was I supposed to cover this up?
I quickly washed up and grabbed my school uniform. I tied my hair into a messy bun, not bothering to make it perfect. I was already late, and I didn't care about looking great, but I needed to cover up my battered face. Makeup was my only option, even though I wasn't a fan.
I applied it quickly, trying to hide the damage. But my hands were shaking, and I kept messing up. I took a deep breath and tried again, my heart racing with every passing minute.
Finally, I was done. I grabbed my bag and rushed out the door, only to realize I'd forgotten to lock it. I turned back, wasting precious time. My anxiety was building, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.
I rushed to school, my feet pounding the pavement. I collided with someone on the way, but I didn't stop to apologize. "Sorry" I called out, already several steps away.
I burst through the school doors, out of breath. My eyes landed on Mr. Adrien, the teacher notorious for punishing tardy students. He glared at me, his expression stern.
"You're late, as always, Faith," he said, his voice dripping with disappointment.
I nodded hastily, trying to apologize. But Mr. Adrien cut me off.
"Save it, Faith. Just get to class."
I took off, relieved to escape his wrath. But as I slipped into class, every pair of eyes seemed to bore into me. I felt like an outcast, a human in a school dominated by werewolves.
Sindy's eyes, however, were different. She stared at me like she'd just seen a ghost. I frowned, wondering what was wrong.
The rules were strict , no talking during class. But Sindy bombarded me with questions during break, her words tumbling out in a frantic rush.
"How did you escape? Were you hurt? Injured anywhere? What happened?"
I blinked, overwhelmed. What was she talking about?
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I said, feeling a twinge of fear.
Sindy's intensity was unnerving. She handed me her lunch, her eyes never leaving mine.
"I'm not hungry," she said, her voice low.
I took the food, grateful, and dug in. But Sindy's next words hit me like a slap.
"How did you escape? Did you kill him?"
I stared, my eyes wide. What was she insinuating?
"No way, I wouldn't do that" I shot back, my voice loud and raw.
Amanda walked in, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on us. Her gaze settled on me, her face twisting into a sneer.
"You still look the same," she said, her tone biting.
I kept quiet, knowing better than to mess with her. Amanda was a shewolf, and I'd seen firsthand how strong she was.
The break had ended, and I was stuck in the late period, feeling like I was stuck in limbo. I was trapped in the most mindnumbing class ever, Supernatural Creatures 101.
The teacher's drone was like a lullaby, and I eventually succumbed to sleep. Something whacked me on the head, and I yelped in pain.
"Ouch" I said, rubbing the spot.
Amanda sneered at me. "Sleeping in class makes you look like a drooling mess, not cute, human."
The class erupted into laughter, and I felt my face heat up. I rolled my eyes and muttered under my breath.
As the bell rang, I grabbed my bag and made a beeline for the door. I trudged back to my apartment, exhausted from the day's drama.
As soon as I shut the door, I scrubbed off the makeup, feeling like I was shedding a fake skin. Amanda's mocking words still lingered in my mind, making my stomach twist with embarrassment and sadness.
I flopped onto my bed, only to remember my phone was nowhere to be found. I groaned in frustration and began to search for it.
Hours passed, and I was about to give up when I spotted it in the drawer of my clothes. Why had I stuck it there, anyway? I snatched it up and started scrolling through my messages. That's when I saw it - a text from Sindy.
"Meet me at the Family Church at 10pm."
I frowned, a sense of unease creeping over me. What did she want to meet there for? And why did she sound so secretive?
Just as I was pondering this, a low, husky voice whispered in my ear, "Don't go."
I spun around, but there was no one there. Must be nothing. I tried to shake off the feeling, but it lingered.
I hesitated for a moment, then replied to Sindy's message with a simple "OK". What could possibly go wrong?
As I waited for her response, the darkness outside seemed to press in, making the shadows in my room twist and writhe like living things. And then, my phone buzzed again.
I stared at the screen, my heart racing with anticipation. But it was just a message from an unknown number.
"Remember, Faith. Always remember the name Felix."
My blood ran cold. Who was this? And how did they know my name?
