On the first day of a new year, after Darling successfully defended her championship title in the year's first race.
Excited to finally reveal myself as the team's elusive mystery coach, I approached the lounge only to overhear her and Gunner's blush-inducing pants from outside the door.
"Melody, you little temptress, you're going to drain me dry!"
"It's not my fault you're out of shape."
"Oh, by the way, my husband's coming to celebrate with me soon. You can't leave any marks on me."
Just as those words fell, I received a text from Melody.
Every word expressed her love for me.
Each letter pierced my heart like a dagger.
I didn't reply. Instead, I opened a chat with a profile totally black.
[I accept your previous invitation, but I can't afford a plane ticket right now.]
The reply came swiftly: [Don't worry about that. I'll send someone to pick you up.]

Melody's eyes were filled with joy at finding me: "Honey, I knew that with your love for racing, I'd definitely find you at this big event!"


She grabbed my hand: "Honey, I know I was wrong. Ever since you left, I've been searching for you. Won't you come home with me?"


I coldly shook off her hand: "Melody, things ended between us when you cheated with Gunner."


"What makes you think I'd accept a woman who's slept with another man?"


"I want a faithful wife, not someone who betrays their marriage."


Melody's expression froze; she hadn't expected my attitude to be so firm.


She took out our wedding ring: "Honey, you swore to love me forever when we got married. I just made a mistake that every woman in the world could make. Why won't you forgive me?"


"Have you forgotten your feelings for me?"


Melody grasped my hand again: "Honey, I truly regret what I did. Won't you give me another chance?"


I angrily pushed her away: "Impossible!"
