Trying to get by

The next day, Chloe and Stephen were sitting on a tree, discussing.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Chloe asked.

"Bummer, disgusting. Bonnie is my first girlfriend, and I love her so much. She just broke my heart without any reason, no explanation at all. It's just so frustrating. If I find out that some idiot is behind this, I swear on my grandfather's grave that person will not go Scott-free."

"Amen," Chloe said. "I loved my first boyfriend with my heart and soul. I was willing to do anything for him, but he broke up with me surprisingly. You see, the world isn't about how we feel for people; it's about how they perceive us, how they view us, and how much they trust and value us. Your own best friend can betray you anywhere and anytime. It was after my ex broke up with me that I found out my best friend was behind everything..."

"Wait, you mean your best friend? How?" Stephen asked.

"My best friend secretly liked my ex, so she did everything possible to take him away from me. She lied about me to my ex, and he broke up with me and started dating her. But the funny thing is that my ex later found out that it was all lies, but it was already too late. My friend was already pregnant for him, and he chose to take care of the child. My friend became his baby mama. Funny, right?".

"What! That's not funny at all. I mean, why would your friend do such a thing? What are friends for?

"Perhaps it might be one of your friends behind what's going on between you and Bonnie."

"No... No... My friends would never do such a thing. I trust them with my life."

"Never can tell, Stephen. You don't know who is who. You only know yourself. Never trust anyone."

"My friends are different, okay."

"Remember, I also trusted my friend with everything within me, but you showed me her true self in the end. So you can't trust anyone."

"Can you change the topic, please? You're making me nervous."

"Okay."

Chloe changed the topic, and they talked and laughed.

Stephen went home and told his uncle about their plan to find out the person behind what was happening."

"Laughing, his uncle said, 'Stephen, you're really serious about this?

"Trust me, I'm good at this kind of stuff.'"

"Smiling, Julie said, 'You're just so funny. Someone is in love.'

"Stephen laughed and went upstairs. He called his mom when he got to his room."

"Good evening, Mom".

"Evening, my son, how are you doing today?"

"The father walks in while they are on call":

"Honey, it's your son, Katherine said".

"Ummm, my sweet boy, how are you?"

"I'm okay dad, how about you and mom?"

"We're fine, hope you're studying your books?"

"Yes dad".

"Stephen, if you're stressed, don't hesitate to call okay?"

"Alright, pa".

"So when are you coming to visit us?"

"Don't worry, I'll come before you know it".

"Smile, we can't wait".

"I just wanted to talk to you guys,um.... I'll hang up now. I love you mom"

"I love you too, my baby.

"Lucas is still waiting for his turn, he kept for a while and asked, what about me?

"Smile, I love you too pa.

Stephen ended the call, went downstairs to have dinner, then read afterward, and finally went to sleep after reading his books.
