Ch 19: First Battle

From the shadows, the owners of those glowing eyes finally revealed themselves. They were Silverback Wolves.

Silverback Wolves were larger than normal wolves. Their silver fur shimmered under the faint light of the crystals in the cave. Their backs had thick silver streaks running from their necks down to their tails, making them look even more ferocious. Their sharp claws clinked against the ground as they moved, and their red eyes gleamed with hunger and bloodlust.

Silverback Wolves were known for being violent and merciless. They didn't care about anything other than killing and eating.

Growl~

While they walked forward, their sharp teeth dripped with saliva as they eyed Eryx and his group. They were ready to attack.

Leon's face turned serious. He quickly shouted, "Stay on alert!"

There was no need for his reminder. Everyone knew what was going to happen next.

Lin Ning'er stepped closer to Eryx while her hand already gripped her sword tightly.

"Eryx, stay close to me. I'll protect you if anything happens. Try not to go far from me," she said firmly.

Eryx nodded. Even he knew that he should not stay away from the group. Among the four, he was the weakest. Most importantly, he had never fought a battle before this. He also had not cultivated any battle skills.

Lin Jiaxu did give him a powerful skill, but he didn't try to comprehend it. After all, trying to comprehend and cultivate a battle skill would be akin to wasting time, for he could directly master these skills and even evolve them by spending Energy Points.

He had more than 1500 Energy Points, but he didn't utilize them because he wanted to wait and gather more energy points first.

Eryx moved closer to Lin Ning'er. It was also by now that the wolves surrounded everyone from all directions.

Eryx felt his heart pounding as the wolves circled them. There were sixteen wolves in total, and all of them looked vicious. They were growling lowly as they closed in.

"Sixteen wolves... this might be troublesome," Leon muttered as he eyed the pack carefully. He was a Core Formation Realm warrior, just like Lin Ning'er and Mira. While these wolves were only Tier-2 Beasts, they had strength equal to that of the Foundation Establishment Realm. If there was only one or two, killing them wouldn't have been difficult, however, fighting so many at once would not be easy.

If they weren't careful, someone could get injured.

Mira tightened her grip on her blade. Anyone could see air fluctuating around her. She prepared to take action any second.

"Roar!"

The wolves suddenly howled ferociously. Their voices echoed in the cave, and then, without warning, they pounced at everyone from every direction. They charged at full speed, moving quickly and viciously.

Lin Ning'er was the first to strike. Her sword flashed with light. Then she slashed through the air, meeting one of the wolves head-on.

Her aim was perfect. As her sword targeted the wolf in front of her, it sliced smoothly through its thick fur and flesh. Blood sprayed from the wound like a crimson fountain, splattering the ground with dark red droplets. The wolf yelped and fell to the ground. But this was not the end. As she killed one of the wolves, three more immediately jumped toward her.

However, before these wolves could reach her, she was already standing behind Eryx, cutting off yet another wolf's head easily.

Leon and Mira didn't waste any time either. Leon swung his spear with great force, sending a wolf flying backward with a powerful blow. At the same time, he shouted, "Keep them at bay! Don't let them surround us!"

Mira also fought the wolves, killing one of them with just one attack.

Nevertheless, it was just the beginning. By the time the three of them killed a few wolves, other wolves had already arrived very close to their bodies.

Meanwhile, Eryx stayed close behind Lin Ning'er, watching the battle unfold. He knew he wasn't strong enough to help much, but he tried to stay calm.

"I have to be useful somehow," Eryx thought to himself. Unfortunately, he was not strong enough. Although he was also a Foundation Establishment Realm warrior, due to not having a battle experience yet and not knowing a battle skill, he was not sure how well he would do if he were to fight.

The wolves kept coming. Lin Ning'er spun around, keeping her sword while using her whip to lash out at wolves that tried to bite her from behind.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three wolves were sent flying at the same time. Three bloody marks also appeared at three different places on their bodies.

"Eryx, stay behind me!"

While she spoke to Eryx, her focus was still concentrated on wolves.

Eryx watched as the wolves surrounded them. Even though they were only Tier-2 wolves, they fought with incredible coordination. Whenever one wolf was knocked back, another would jump in to take its place. The pack was relentless.

Thinking for a time, Eryx knew he could not hesitate any longer. Without wasting a second, he immediately invested 1,500 Energy Points to comprehend the Mountain Piercing Finger,

[While comprehending, you somehow entered a state of enlightenment and saw a magnificent scene of a giant finger coming from the sky, pointing at a tall mountain. The mountain was penetrated easily by that finger. A deep hole was created. When the finger retracted, the mountain exploded into pieces.]

[Witnessing that magnificent sight, you seemed to have understood something. Unfortunately, it was not clear. What you understood was still blurry. However, you at least successfully comprehended the basics of Mountain Piercing Finger.]

A load of information surged into Eryx's mind. Just like that, he understood the Mountain Piercing Finger and could now use it in battle.

"I invested 1,500 Points of High-Level Energy, yet I only comprehended the basics of Mountain Piercing Finger. Then how many energy points would I need to comprehend it to mastery or in its evolution?"

Eryx was shocked. He was now left with only 40 Points of High-Level Energy.

Suddenly, Eryx came back to his senses when he felt a strong wind brush against his body.

He turned, only to find a mighty whip blowing through the air, striking a wolf's head, crushing it like a watermelon.

The wind that brushed against his body was produced by the whip.

"Be careful," Lin Ning'er warned Eryx. She saw him standing in a daze just now. Fortunately, she took action and killed the wolf. Otherwise, Eryx would have been heavily injured just now.

Eryx nodded at her. He also realized that the battlefield should not be a place for investing points. In the future, he better find a safe place before using the system.

He turned and saw Leon stabbing his spear into the ground, causing a shockwave to ripple through the cave, throwing the wolves around him off balance. Then he waved the spear in the air, causing several ice shards to materialize that fell heavily on the wolves, piercing into their bodies.

Then he turned to look at Mira, who created an energy barrier to block the coming attack. Following that, she retaliated, cutting the wolf's neck easily. 

All of a sudden, a bad premonition rose in his heart. He turned, only to see a wolf jumping on him.

Eryx was shocked. He hurriedly retreated, but even so, that wolf's claw brushed against his hand.

Three deep, bloody marks appeared on Eryx's hand. He cried in pain while backing away a few more steps.

"Eryx!"

Lin Ning'er was surprised. She wanted to come to help him. Unfortunately, she could not, for she was dealing with four wolves at once right now.

"Roar!"

The wolf roared at Eryx and pounced on him again.

Eryx wanted to retreat, but he suddenly felt a chill on his back. Without even looking behind, he knew another wolf was about to attack him. He knew he could not retreat.

This was the second time he found himself in extreme danger. The first time was back on Earth.

Since he could not retreat, he could only fight back. He was not sure how the basic understanding of Mountain Piercing Finger would perform against these wolves, but he had to try.

Mountain Piercing Finger!

Eryx raised his right hand's index finger and pointed at the wolf pouncing on him.

The moment he performed the Mountain Piercing Finger; he felt every bit of energy inside his body rushing towards his right hand. Then they all gathered in his index finger before exploding.

A single finger, blue in color, materialized in front of him and pierced into the wolf's head. By the time Eryx's finger touched the wolf personally, the materialized image of the finger had already broken out of the wolf's body.

Bang!

The wolf's body fell to the ground. A big hole could be seen in its head. It could not be more dead.

Without having time to think anything, he hurriedly ducked and then rolled on the ground.

The second wolf jumped above his head.

Just like that, he narrowly avoided death.
