Kikidori was sprawled across the velvet couch in the grand living room of the mansion, his feet propped up on the armrest as he lazily flipped through an old book. The silence was peaceful, a rare moment of calm in their otherwise chaotic lives.
That peace was quickly interrupted when a small, furry blur leapt onto his chest.
"Damn it, Whiskers!" Kikidori exclaimed, jolting upright as the vampire cat settled on him, purring loudly. The little creature's dark fur gleamed in the dim light, its sharp fangs visible as it yawned.
Ere'ana appeared in the doorway, her usual graceful stride carrying her into the room. She arched an eyebrow at the sight of Whiskers sprawled across Kikidori's chest.
"Looks like someone's got a new favorite," she teased, her lips curving into a smirk.
"Yeah, well, he's your cat," Kikidori muttered, scratching Whiskers behind the ears despite his protest.
Ere'ana approached, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Come here, Whiskers," she cooed, reaching for the cat.
Whiskers obediently hopped off Kikidori and into Ere'ana's arms, his purring growing even louder. Ere'ana nuzzled him affectionately, and to Kikidori's surprise—and mild horror—she started purring as well, a soft, almost melodic sound that matched the rhythm of the cat's.
Kikidori stared at her, dumbfounded. "Are you seriously purring with the cat right now?"
Ere'ana glanced at him, her expression unbothered. "What? It's relaxing."
He shook his head, rising from the couch. "You're unbelievable," he said, grabbing his coat from the back of a chair. "I'm gonna go hunt."
Ere'ana didn't look up, too engrossed in her purring session with Whiskers. "Have fun," she said, her tone distracted.
Kikidori rolled his eyes and stepped out into the crisp evening air. The city was alive with its usual noise and chaos, the perfect backdrop for his hunt. He moved through the streets with practiced ease, his senses sharp as he searched for the perfect target.
As he turned a corner into a quieter part of town, something unusual caught his eye.
On the rooftop of a nearby building stood two figures, their presence impossible to ignore. The man had black wings that shimmered faintly in the moonlight, his purple, glowing horns casting an otherworldly light around him. The woman beside him was equally striking, her glowing halo and flowing white hair giving her an angelic appearance.
Kikidori froze, narrowing his eyes as he observed them. They were clearly deep in conversation, their voices low but intense. Something about their presence felt... off, as though they didn't belong in this world.
He thought about investigating, but then shrugged to himself. "Not my problem," he muttered, turning on his heel and walking away. Whatever celestial drama they were caught up in, it had nothing to do with him.
Still, as he moved further from the rooftop, he frowned, but ultimately brushed the thought aside.
By the time he returned to the mansion, the encounter was already fading from his mind. Ere'ana was still in the living room, now lounging with Whiskers curled up on her lap. She glanced up as he entered, her eyes curious.
"Find anything interesting?" she asked.
Kikidori shook his head, tossing his coat onto a nearby chair. "Just the usual," he said casually, leaving out the part about the celestial beings. "You?"
Ere'ana smirked. "Whiskers and I had a very productive evening."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I'm surrounded by lunatics," he muttered, but there was a small smile on his lips as he sat down beside her.
The two of them settled into a comfortable silence, the oddities of the evening left unspoken. For now, at least, they could enjoy the quiet together.
