As soon as his abilities were confirmed, Han Chen was thrilled to finally receive a response from the chaos bead. It wasn't a direct message but rather a flood of triggering methods and various uses he had set up in his previous life. Seeing this, he realized how right he had been to lock the bead's power until now.
Unlike mortals in the spiritual world, who were born with the ability to tolerate normal levels of spiritual qi, his mortal body in this life was biologically unprepared to handle such potent energy. If he had accessed the bead on the first day, he likely would have died -poisoned by concentrated qi and bleeding from his orifices -despite his control over the heavenly dao. He couldn't even transmit instructions to mitigate the effects.
Mindful of the other students nearby, Han Chen contained his excitement. The camp trip ended early due to the earlier incident, and they returned home. That night, he finally accessed his treasure. Extending his consciousness into the bead, it recognized the signature he had created in his past life. In an instant, he disappeared, leaving behind the bead, which turned invisible even to the divine senses of immortals.
...
Inside the bead, he found himself in a vast plain. The first thing he noticed was the overwhelming concentration of spiritual energy, so intense it nearly blinded him. "Truly, only in poverty can one recognize the value of possessions," he thought.
"In my previous life, I took spiritual energy for granted, like the air we breathe."
He realized he couldn't refine the spiritual energy yet—he needed to complete his body refinement first. After a bit of moving around he found the replica of his inner palace as an immortal emperor standing proudly in front. After reminiscing about the past looking around, he returned to the task at hand.
With the help of spirit of the pavilion he placed, he opened the restriction and filtered out to only have normal levels of spirit qi in the inside. Moving through the alchemy department, he unlocked the formation seals and found the 9-Turn Body Refinement Pill. It was the weakest pill he could absorb now without risking his body exploding.
Sitting cross-legged, Han Chen consumed the elixir. It began releasing mild, superior-quality spiritual energy combined with medicinal essence into his body. As he activated his body refinement technique, a dao yun aura spilled from him, resonating with the spiritual energy and triggering perfect immortal laws.
Phantoms of law spirits appeared—water elemental dragons, fire phoenixes, wind larks, thunder rocs, light celestial qilins, verdant kirins, and more. The stagnant refinement of his body accelerated. His skin refinement completed swiftly, and within three hours, his flesh refinement was nearly done.
In his excitement over recovering the chaos bead, he forgot he needed to appear the next morning. Only when his phone alarm rang did he wake up. Realizing the time, he carefully introduced a trace of spiritual energy into his meridians, despite the intense pain and swelling it caused.
Using his consciousness as a guide, he formed a formation pattern over the remaining medicine in his body, sealing its essence dispersion. This allowed him to complete the refinement process slowly over time.
He sighed as he was not ready for a long retreat as of now. After communicating with the bead's spiritual imprint, he returned to his room. Covered in a foul stench, he rushed to the bathroom to clean up, then headed to breakfast and class.
The atmosphere in class was tense. The National Higher Education Entrance Examination was approaching, and everyone was busy studying and taking mock exams. Han Chen casually flipped through the material, memorizing everything effortlessly and even spotting several mistakes in the textbooks. Watching his classmates struggle, he felt a pang of pity. "I was once like you," he thought. "Maybe some of you have had it worse than I did. But in the end, I'm the one who won the lottery."
Bored, he leaned back, closed his eyes, and began refining his bones by partially unlocking the seal on the elixir. A faint dao yun aura emanated from him, but this time, it didn't spread beyond two meters. Strangely, the students near him found it easier to remember and memorize their studies.
Fan Qing, his deskmate, noticed this immediately. It wasn't the first time he'd experienced it. He attributed it to Han Chen's presence, believing in a "Luckyness Contagion" superstition -- that Han Chen with handsome face and being top-ranking student, has enormous luck which would somehow influence on those around him. He was enthusiastically studying near Han Chen who was sleeping.
When the new class teacher, Li Mei, entered, she noticed everyone except Han Chen working diligently. She noticed this for a few days but kept it in his mind and pretended nothing happened.
Retreat for a long time needs good state of mind. That's what he was preparing for the last few days.
...
On Han Chen's side; Let's become stronger. I thought.
One night, inside the bead's cultivation tower time chamber, I crashed for a full day making my mind peaceful. When I woke, I forced myself back into training. For two days straight, I survived on weak spiritual grass and water, unsealed the pill partially pushing my body through bone refinement. By the end, my bones gleamed like polished jade. let me split my focus: refining my body while honing my mind.
Next came bone marrow refinement—agonizing, but a month later, it was done. I could finally stomach slightly stronger spiritual foods. Problem was, everything here was packed with too much Qi for a mortal. Without a spirit root, I had to bleed off excess energy through my pores.
Three months later, my blood carried a faint golden tint.
Four months after that, my organs were reforged. Only then could I safely eat the bead's resources regularly.
By the peak of body refinement, my physique had cycled through seven purges, stripping away every impurity. My skin hardened like steel; my veins hummed with energy. I didn't even need to eat much anymore—my body perfected whatever I consumed.
I could easily overpower body cultivator at current stage without using internal energy just with the higher-grade refinement.
The pill I'd made in my past life—crude, immortal-grade—had done its job. Originally, it was intended for consumption as a mortal directly with agonizing pain but being a martial artist helped greatly alleviate the refining process.
Unintentionally, I'd crossed into the Land Immortal Realm. Normally, this required spirit sense to merge with heaven and earth's qi nature to obtain partial control over laws.
But here on earth? It just meant I am still at this world's "grandmaster" tier; without spiritual energy it doesn't have any more combat ability. I could hover mid-air for a short time, bend basic laws, and my spirit sense fused with telekinesis, reaching 480 meters from just 50 meters previously but it stopped growing.
Biology probably runs out of potential for optimization for such a super ability. Its comparable to foundation establishment in span but not in resolution. I also took steps to study 'ability'.
Turns out, telekinesis here isn't magic or purely biological --it's my brain storing and channeling traces of immortal energy left from my past life spirt merger. Since this world's natural laws are weak, that wisp of energy warps reality laws easily.
Brain just learned to influence it easily due to development since merger and compatibility with spirit.
Back in the cultivation world, the stronger spiritual laws would've dampened this ability outside the body leading to no development whatsoever.
Couple that sheer coincidence, with ability of martial arts sync with dao rhythm aimed at life level evolution with each realm enabling body to develop in the desirable direction with maximum potential, there you have it 'super ability'.
Two years in the bead's time chamber - just two hours outside. It was his first long retreat in this life and felt less efficient as time passed. He returned back to his bedroom, looking at his taller physique and explosive muscles and fair body as a fairy, he sighed and disguised back to ordinary with a technique.
Next day Han Chen appeared same as before, while others speed run for exam preparation he slept comfortably. This time Li Mei noticed and went over.
She approached him, but as she entered his near spiritual sense range, the qi fluctuations alerted him to her presence. He woke up abruptly, sensing foreign qi signature.
Looking up, he saw the new, beautiful teacher—who now seemed far from ordinary. This was a change that hadn't happened in his previous life. Connecting the dots, he realized she might be from the supernatural department. Before she could sense it, he suppressed his dao yun aura, masking his presence once more.
"Have you reviewed everything? Han Chen, come with me—I'll test you," Li Mei ordered, beckoning him back to her teacher's room. Fan Qing's regretful gaze, Zhao Lin's snickering, and Xu Qing's amused smile followed as Han Chen shook his head and trailed behind her.
