Chapter 27: Thunder Movie/General: "Capture the Envoy of Intellect? Me?"
"General! This absolutely cannot be allowed!"
The moment General Raiden reappeared before the people of Inazuma, she made a bold promise: to give everyone a dream. All the people of Inazuma would enter an eternal dream, where birth, aging, sickness, and death would no longer exist. Everyone would be treated fairly and justly, with all suffering erased. In this dream, fairness, equality, and happiness—things that couldn't be achieved in reality—would be realized.
Though her return dispelled the panic in the people's hearts, her words sparked anxiety among a different group: the nobles. For them, letting commoners enjoy the same privileges and benefits as themselves was tantamount to losing their power and status. Wasn't that exploitation of their wealth and influence?
Soon, several nobles approached General Raiden, hoping to persuade her to retract her decree.
"General! You once conquered Inazuma, how can you abandon it now?" Kujo Takayuki declared with righteous indignation, as if he held a great cause in his hands. But in truth, what he couldn't bear to accept was the loss of his own power.
Kujo Takayuki wasn't willing to give up the authority he held in reality to enter some vague dream. If General Raiden's dream meant equality and fairness, that would strip the Kujo family of everything they had built. It was as good as a death sentence.
Hiiragi Shinsuke, the Kanjou Commissioner, joined him in protest. Although the Hiiragi family didn't wield the same military power as the Kujo family, they controlled vast amounts of wealth. Giving that up for some dream? Impossible!
Long before they entered Tenshukaku, Kujo Takayuki and Hiiragi Shinsuke had made a pact: they had to stop General Raiden, no matter what. She must be convinced to abandon this dream.
They didn't underestimate the power of a god. If General Raiden declared something possible, then it was possible.
"Look at them, trying to oppose eternity, General~ Can you really tolerate this?" Su Ran smirked, holding the petite Raiden Shogun puppet in his arms. He wasn't shy about adding fuel to the fire. He had been fed up with these two old men for a long time, but killing them outright would be too easy.
"Don't speak nonsense! We act in Inazuma's best interest, and in the name of the General's eternal reign! You, an outsider, cannot possibly understand!" Kujo Takayuki snapped back, visibly angry.
Su Ran simply chuckled. "Oh, I'm an outsider now, am I?"
He casually stroked the Raiden Shogun puppet in his arms, causing her to stretch out her hand to stop him. The majesty of a god mustn't be lost, after all. If she weren't trapped in this small puppet form, she wouldn't have allowed herself to be held like this, unable to resist properly. If others knew that the true Raiden Shogun was in this tiny puppet body, it would be utterly humiliating.
Hiiragi Shinsuke, on the other hand, was sweating profusely. Was Kujo Takayuki blind? Did he not see the little Thunder General in Su Ran's arms? That had to be the General's daughter, right? And if that man didn't need to kneel before the Raiden Shogun... Could he be the General's consort?
"Are you opposing eternity?" Raiden Shogun's voice rang out, her gaze fixed on the two kneeling men. Unlike her previous self, this version of the Shogun was far more perceptive. Had this been the past, she would have reduced Kujo Takayuki and Hiiragi Shinsuke to ashes without a second thought. But now, she had upgraded her intelligence.
"No, General! I only think that this dream is like a bubble, something fragile and fleeting. It's not the eternity you truly seek!" Kujo Takayuki pleaded.
Before he could speak further, Su Ran chimed in, fanning the flames. "General, what they're really saying is that your eternity is nothing but a bubble, ready to pop at the slightest touch. In their eyes, your eternity is a joke."
The two ministers gritted their teeth, but they were powerless to refute his words. How could they argue? Even the Vision Hunt Decree and the Sakoku Decree had been accepted by the Raiden Shogun, so why wouldn't she stand by this eternal dream?
They had no valid argument.
Raiden Shogun glanced at Su Ran, clearly aware of his antics. She was no longer the naive General of old. She knew he was stirring up trouble, but she tolerated him, if only because of the small puppet he held in his arms.
"So, what do you propose we do?" she asked, curious to see how Su Ran would play this out. Stopping the dream was out of the question, but she was willing to indulge in some amusement for now.
"Those who oppose eternity should be executed immediately! Their heads should be displayed for all of Inazuma to see. This would send a clear message that General Raiden's eternity is sacred and untouchable!" Su Ran declared.
The Raiden Shogun nodded, and even the little Raiden puppet in Su Ran's arms nodded in agreement—though for very different reasons. The Shogun nodded to play along with Su Ran's mischief, but the puppet nodded because she genuinely believed that eternity could not be challenged. Without setting an example, others would dare to rise against her vision.
Though Su Ran and the General didn't actually intend to kill Kujo Takayuki and Hiiragi Shinsuke, the puppet was already planning to publicly display their heads at the foot of the Thousand-Armed, Hundred-Eyed Statue.
Kujo Takayuki panicked. He no longer cared about Su Ran's relationship with General Raiden. If this man wasn't dealt with, the Kujo family would never know peace!
"General! Don't listen to this villain's slander! This man is no good. He could even be an infiltrator, sent to destroy your vision of eternity! We should capture him immediately!" Kujo Takayuki cried out, desperate.
Raiden Shogun: ...
Raiden Ei: ...
Capture him? With just the two of you?
