31: Kamisato Ayaka's Psychological Defenses Continue To Collapse

If it weren't for Lord Thunder God forbidding it, Kamisato Ayaka would have told Xiao Gong long ago. How could he keep rejecting her request?

As Xiao Gong's friend, Ayaka didn't want to upset her, but the constant rejections were making Xiao Gong feel embarrassed. However, she didn't say anything. She could only consider it Ayaka's possessiveness.

"Since it doesn't work, then forget it…" Xiao Gong murmured, clearly hurt by the situation. The deep sense of loss in her eyes made Kamisato Ayaka feel even more guilty, but she couldn't tell her the truth.

"That... Ayaka, I don't really need to hold you. You don't have to do this..." Ayaka seemed to want to say something but hesitated, unsure whether to speak up. She could only wait in silence, which made Xiao Gong even more anxious.

Xiao Gong didn't need to hold Lei Dianying. She definitely didn't want to snatch her away. Why was Ayaka acting so aggrieved? It was clearly Xiao Gong who had been rejected, yet Ayaka looked even more upset. What was going on?

Although Lei Dianying noticed the two of them, she chose not to interfere. After all, this body wasn't created by her, but she was currently using it. If her appearance was only cute, she'd have to be carried around all the time, which would be distressing. She preferred silence in these moments.

Suddenly, Lei Dianying shook the empty Tuanzi milk bottle in Su Ran's direction. "The milk is finished!"

Because of her smaller body, the small bottle of Tuanzi milk seemed large in her hands, but she was satisfied with the quantity.

"Do you want more, Xiaoying? I'll go buy some!" Although Xiao Gong hadn't held Lei Dianying yet, she was already fond of the little general. She quickly went to the stall to buy more Tuanzi milk.

Linghua glanced down at Lei Dianying in her arms. "Your choice is right. Though I don't exactly resemble a god, I can't help but feel distressed when I get too close to people."

Although Lei Dianying didn't dislike cheerful people, she wasn't comfortable with them. It was best to keep some distance.

"And just call me Ying. The title of 'General' belongs to the one in the castle tower."

Linghua thought for a moment. If someone hears us talking this way, what would become of Lei Dianying's reputation?

"I understand, Lord Ying," Kamisato Ayaka replied, visibly relieved. She had risked alienating Xiao Gong to protect Lei Dianying's reputation. But when she reflected on everything that had happened, she couldn't help but glare at Su Ran in frustration.

If Su Ran hadn't directly placed Ying in her arms, none of this would have happened.

It was Xiao Gong who had been kind and considerate. She hadn't meant to embarrass her, but Ayaka still felt uncomfortable.

"Xiaoying is very cute. Doesn't Linghua like her?" Su Ran asked with a teasing smile, amused by Ayaka's look of resentment.

Ayaka sighed. "Sir, you're too mean. Linghua is just a mortal. How could she dare to hold Lord Ying directly?"

Gods were beings who should be admired from a distance. Being able to see them up close was a great honor, but to touch them would be disrespectful. Especially for someone like Kamisato Linghua, who wasn't as bold as Xiao Gong.

When Lei Dianying was placed in her arms earlier, Kamisato Linghua had been scared out of her wits.

Su Ran raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong with that? Don't I claim to be Linghua's suitor?"

Kamisato Ayaka frowned. Su Ran is so shameless...

"I'm not worthy of the pursuit of a god," Kamisato Linghua sighed, her tone heavy. Her life had become an adventure these past few days. How many people got to eat and live with gods?

Now, this very god was claiming to pursue her. She felt tired. Were all gods this free-spirited? If so, she was envious. Living in the Kamisato family meant she was subject to many rules. In the past, she had envied Xiao Gong's free life, but now, seeing a god live so freely made her wish for the same.

If she could live like that, she might have the courage to openly admit her feelings.

As this thought crossed her mind, Kamisato Ayaka glanced at Su Ran before quickly looking away, feeling a little embarrassed. Why did she think of Su Ran first when considering matters of the heart?

They had only known each other for a week, and while Su Ran was pursuing her, could she really accept it so easily?

Ayaka's thoughts swirled, and she was deeply conflicted.

Su Ran seemed to catch on to her unease and smirked. "So, Ayaka, do you think because I'm a god, I don't need to pursue you?"

Kamisato Ayaka, a Sakura girl from a prestigious family, was struggling to handle the impact of someone like Su Ran, who seemed so modern and unbound by tradition.

The little girl was defeated by just a few words. Given her noble status, Ayaka couldn't even say "I don't care about you anymore." She could only endure his teasing, her defenses crumbling piece by piece.

"Lord Su Ran, do you treat other girls like this?" Ayaka asked, trying to keep her composure.

Su Ran winked. "Little Ayaka is very special. You're the first human to receive special treatment from me~"

Although there was also Columbia, Columbia wasn't human. Kamisato Ayaka couldn't help but feel a twinge of warmth. Even though she constantly reminded herself of the vast divide between humans and gods, she realized she was starting to let her guard down.

When Ayaka was treated like the "egret princess," no one had ever treated her like this before. It was an overwhelming feeling.
