Relief Of A Shared Secret

That night, Ren and Thorn sat alone in Ren's room.

The window was open and cool air filtered into the room, the distant sounds of the clanking of a patrolling night guard's armor occasionally breaking the silence.

Thorn sat back in his chair, rolling his shoulders carefully. Though he was healing well, he was still recovering, meaning there would be no mission tonight.

Ren could have gone alone, but he decided not to. Instead, they sat there, sharing stories and jokes, reminiscing about their time at the border.

"Remember that one time," Thorn chuckled, "when we set up that 'genius' ambush, only to have those barbarians completely ignore the trap and just charge straight at us?"

Ren smirked. "I remember you running faster than anyone else."

"Hey." Thorn raised a finger. "I wasn't running. I was relocating to a more strategic position."

Ren shook his head. "Sure, let's go with that."
