Chapter 3

For Emma's words, I wasn't surprised at all.

I just looked at her calmly.

"Ma'am, when you make such accusations, you need to provide evidence."

"Evidence......"

Sherry lowered her head, seemingly trying hard to recall.

Seeing that she couldn't produce any evidence, I stood up to leave.

At this moment, Sherry hurriedly said, "I don't have evidence, but I know about Holt's past."

I turned back to look at her and sat down again.

She kept her head down, fighting back tears, "His ex-girlfriend was my best friend, named Crystal. Crystal had always been a cheerful girl, but after she started dating Holt, she'd often have unexplained injuries. I asked her if Holt was hitting her, but she never spoke up. Later, one time when I went to see her, I discovered it was indeed Holt who was beating her!"

"He's not human, he's a beast! He knew Crystal came from a troubled family and was sensitive and insecure since childhood, so he constantly manipulated her, making her too afraid to speak up or leave him even when he hit her. It wasn't her fault, she was just manipulated, she was too vulnerable......"

At this point, Sherry was in tears.Crystal is a good girl. She's kind-hearted and always helps others. Even when she can barely take care of herself, she can't stand to see others suffer. But despite being such a wonderful person, she was beaten black and blue by Holt's domestic violence. Her mental state deteriorated to the point where she didn't even seem like a normal person anymore. I wanted to save her, but she didn't want to drag me into it.

We tried to call the police, but they said it's hard for officials to intervene in family matters, telling us to resolve it ourselves. Even a statement of forgiveness...

She didn't need to finish. I had seen similar news stories before.

I waited calmly for her to continue.

"I feel so sorry for Crystal. I haven't experienced it myself, but I can sense the darkness and despair. How much pain Crystal must have gone through after all of this..."

"Crystal couldn't bear that life anymore. Trapped in his grasp with no way out, she ultimately took her own life."

"I found out this monster got married. I don't want another Crystal to appear. If she knew, she would definitely want me to stop you too. I know you're stronger than Crystal, but this monster doesn't deserve you."

"Promise me, will you divorce him and run away?"

Throughout it all, my expression remained unchanged."Thank you for the reminder, but I know my husband's character. I hope you won't spread this around anymore in the future."

Sherry looked somewhat surprised, "You don't believe me? Well, you can investigate it yourself. I just wanted to help you."

"But I don't need this kind of help. Ms. Stratton, I understand how you feel, and I know you mean well. However, I won't doubt my husband because of a few words from an outsider. I hope you can forget about what happened today, and please don't meddle in this matter anymore."

I stood up to leave, this time without hesitation.

As I turned, I couldn't hide the joy on my face.

Finally, I had found him at last.

After work, I went home unusually early for once.

I prepared a romantic candlelit dinner.

When Holt came home and saw this, he was pleasantly surprised.

"Darling, I didn't expect you to be so romantic."

"Of course, you're my husband after all. What's wrong with us being a little romantic? Besides, we've been married for so long, and I've always been busy with work. We haven't even consummated our marriage. I've really been unfair to you."

Holt came forward to embrace me, but I pushed him away.

My hand rested on his chest, my gaze filled with seductive longing."Don't rush, go take a shower first. We still have steaks to eat."

For the first time, I was so enthusiastic that Holt could hardly wait. He kissed my cheek and whispered, "I'll be right back."

He didn't need to say it; I understood his thoughts.

He must be thinking that he'd won me over with just a ring, that I was that easy.

Little did he know, this was only the beginning.

While he was in the shower, I leisurely slipped the drug into his wine glass.

My fingers, adorned with bright red nail polish, stirred the glass.

A faint smile played on my face, but it held an icy chill.

When he finished his shower and came out, I deliberately exposed my long legs and handed him the wine glass.

Holt didn't suspect a thing and downed the wine in one gulp.

I smiled.

He smiled too.

But in the next second, he collapsed heavily onto the floor.

When he woke up, we were already in a secluded villa in the middle of nowhere.

People never understood why I bought this place before.

Why would I buy such a remote villa? It wasn't convenient for travel, and there was no guarantee of safety.

But that's exactly what I wanted.

Holt regained consciousness, only to find himself tied to a chair with iron chains.

He started to feel scared, the smile on his face becoming forced."Darling, what are you up to? This surprise is turning into a bit of a scare."

I crossed my legs, sinking deeper into the couch.

"Holt, are you addicted to domestic violence or something?"
