The Conductor's Trial [2]

"....."

The theater fell completely silent.

A cold knot twisted in my stomach, tightening with every heartbeat as I stared at the conductor in the distance.

So...?

What's its decision?

Did it fall for it? Please accept...

I tried my best to keep composed, but the tension was palpable. I could hardly keep my breath in check as I even had a hard time swallowing my own saliva.

It felt as though... every little second felt like an eternity.

I could only hang suspended while the conductor's stitched-up eyes looked at me.

And then—

The grip over my throat lessened, and I fell back onto the chair.

Thud!

"Fine."

The conductor's brittle voice whispered in the air.

"...I'll give you a chance."

The conductor moved to the side and pointed at the piano that stood at the center of the stage.

"Show me your perfect piece."
