Chapter 8.6 - Road to Divya

"Look, kid, I wake up every day, I do my chores, I trade my goat cheese, then I come back home and do it all over again the next day. No god helped me when the land was so dry, all my goats died, and my wife with them."

Adam swallowed dryly; the saliva was thick in his mouth, making it impossible to reply.

"Everyone in this town went through the same thing, and in the nearby villages too. I was born here. My mother used to talk about the God Builder of the Underground City, but all I saw was the city crumble and people starving left and right."

Zang stopped, staring at Adam and seeing his empty expression.

"But if you believe it, go ahead, kid. Just don't get your hopes up."

Adam didn't say anything else after that. Shu took over until they finished the tea and left with a wheel of goat cheese—Zang insisted they take it for the trip.
