Chapter 7

He showed me a photograph. The woman in it bore a slight resemblance to me.

"This is Viper's deceased pure love. The organization's interest in you isn't without reason."

I calmly took the photo.

All the training was aimed at molding me into another woman's doppelganger.

I was acutely aware of how challenging this mission would be and didn't dare slack off for a moment.

To that end, I even underwent three plastic surgeries, all in pursuit of absolute perfection.

For a long stretch of time, I lived with a man named River.

He was a quiet but incredibly attentive man. When we had free time, we'd go to town for the farmer's market, picking up everyday essentials.

To build our rapport, we lived like a normal married couple. As time passed, I grew completely accustomed to his presence.

He'd remember my menstrual cycle, preparing sanitary products for me in advance.

I, in turn, would silently knit him scarves, quietly placing them on the bedside table.
