Mahiru was peacefully sipping her coffee at the café when Anna suddenly slid into the seat across from her, a mischievous grin plastered on her face.
"Do you know what's special today?" Anna asked, her voice dripping with excitement.
Mahiru blinked, caught off guard. "Um… no?"
Anna dramatically gasped, clutching her chest as if Mahiru had personally offended her. "You don't know?! Today is my dear brother's birthday!"
Mahiru's eyes widened. "Wait… it's Sam's birthday?"
Anna crossed her arms, nodding. "Yep. And knowing him, he's probably going about his day like it's nothing special. We can't let that happen, right?"
Mahiru thought for a moment before nodding. "You're right. We should do something for him."
Anna leaned forward, a wicked glint in her eyes. "Exactly! And what better way than to bake him a cake?!"
Mahiru smiled. "That sounds like a great idea."
"Perfect!" Anna clapped her hands together. "Let's do this, Mahiru! Operation 'Make Sam Cry from Happiness' is a go!"
Mahiru chuckled, already feeling excited about the plan.
Chaos in the Kitchen
The moment they stepped into the kitchen, Mahiru realized this was going to be more challenging than expected.
Mahiru carefully read the recipe. "Okay, we need to measure the flour—"
Anna dumped an entire cup into the bowl. "Done!"
Mahiru stared. "Anna… that was way too much."
"More flour, more fluff!" Anna grinned.
"That's not how baking works!"
A few minutes later, Anna was cracking eggs one-handed, flour was somehow in both their hair, and the kitchen looked like a warzone.
Mahiru sighed, wiping her forehead. "You really don't bake often, do you?"
Anna smirked. "Nope, but I make up for it with enthusiasm!"
Despite the chaos, they finally managed to get the cake batter into the oven. As the warm scent of vanilla and chocolate filled the air, Mahiru leaned against the counter, letting out a tired laugh.
Anna stretched her arms behind her head. "Well, we survived. And if Sam doesn't love this cake, I'll personally shove it in his face."
Mahiru giggled. "Let's hope he loves it."
As the cake baked, the two girls sat down, exhausted but happy. Their little plan for Sam was coming together, and they couldn't wait to see his reaction.
