Investigation

"Trust me."

Maddison's quiet voice floated towards Azrael, and Azrael decided not to carry out his crazy plan just yet and see what it was that Maddison was planning.

"Alright, thank you for understanding, ma'am. I'll try not to take too much of their time."

Finally, after a few minutes, the woman thanked the vice-headmistress and stood up. The woman was wearing a long trench coat over a shirt and plain trousers. Her figure was slim, and she had an air of curiosity around her that made her gaze very piercing. When she glanced at the two children, she hummed while putting her hands into her coat pockets.

"Alright, kids. I only have ten minutes, so I'm going to go straight to the point here. Three of your classmates died yesterday. The bodies were found this morning with injuries that could have only been caused by a sword, and I've been tasked with finding out who it was that did it."

Maddison spoke up with a growl.

"So why are we here then? Do you think I don't know what you're doing? 'Oh, the children of the gods of darkness are in this year, I'm sure they're the ones that did it because they can't become anything but murderers.' Right?"

The investigator glared right back at Maddison.

"Don't get snarky with me, girl. You don't see me throwing accusations around, do you?"

The woman's pressure pressed down on Maddison. There was a tattoo on the left side of the woman's neck, so they already knew that she was a demigod as well, and since she was much older than them, her presence was far stronger.

The woman grabbed a seat from the other side of the room and got comfortable in it before she brought out a recording device and put it on the table beside her. She crossed her legs and folded her hands before giving them both a deep stare.

"I had to ask for permission to have this conversation, so I'd appreciate it if neither of you wasted my time. Late last night, the sensors picked up a few students leaving the gym very late. It was also around this time when the three students were killed. I checked the logs and I noticed that both of you were part of the last group to leave that gym that day. Could you tell me what you were doing after you left the gym?"

The investigator first turned to look at Azrael before her eyes honed in on Maddison. Maddison still had her angry scowl in place, and the investigator waited for either one of them to give a response.

Azrael had already prepared for a scenario like this. Azrael knew that there were sensors in the gym that recorded which students came to work out and when they left, so there was no way the school wouldn't know that he had been there at the time that Francis was killed. But once Azrael heard them asking him what he was doing, Azrael immediately knew that he had them at checkmate.

They didn't know anything about the murderer.

There was no evidence linking either one of them to the killing, and the investigator was simply doing this because it was mandatory. Right now, the investigator saw them as two sixteen-year-olds, and she didn't think they could even be the killers, so she was fishing for any information they could give her.

Azrael and Maddison weren't the only ones who left the gym late last night! And if the both of them weren't children of darkness, then they most likely wouldn't be having this conversation at all!

Azrael put on his most irritated face.

"You don't need to hide the truth from us, ma'am. You're only doing this because of who our Celestial Guardians are, aren't you? You think we are related to the killer somehow?"

The investigator turned to give Azrael a look before she sighed and leaned back.

"I don't care what you think I'm doing this for. I simply want you to give me an answer. Where were you after you left the gym last night?"

Maddison spoke up.

"We don't have to tell you anything. You're making us seem like criminals when you have no evidence."

"Do you think I'm playing with you!? Your classmates are dead!"

Slam!

The investigator immediately lost her cool as she slammed her hand on the table beside her! Maddison jumped in shock, and Azrael tightened his hand into a fist. The woman's face had become even more twisted as she glared at them. At the side, the vice-headmistress looked on in silence as the investigator continued.

"I will not ask you again—what were you doing last night!?"

"We were together!"

Suddenly, silence filled the room as everyone's attention turned towards Maddison. Maddison was staring down at the floor with her hands on her closed knees, and when Azrael looked closely, he saw that there was a small blush growing on her cheek. The investigator pushed up her glasses and cleared her throat.

"I'm sorry, but what do you mean by you being together?"

Maddison looked up at the investigator once she asked this question. There was a look of embarrassment on Maddison's face, and the blush only served to make her words more believable.

"What do you think I mean!?"

Azrael tilted his head to one side, and the investigator turned to him.

"Azrael, is this true?"

Azrael could have done a million different things at that time. He could have simply gone with his original plan and made a straight escape through the window. Or he could've said that Maddison was lying and he had gone home so that he would leave her to explain what she was talking about. This might've even made it seem like he was the innocent one and Maddison was just lying.

But Azrael knew that this was probably what Maddison told him to trust her for. She had planned this from the start, and she was expecting him to play along with her. Azrael took in a shallow breath before he sighed while leaning back into the chair and putting a hand on his face.

"You didn't have to tell them that. We're going to get in trouble."

The investigator blinked at Azrael's action, and the vice-headmistress stood up with a scowl on her face once she understood the implication of what Azrael and Maddison were saying! The police officers that were in the room all had playful smiles on their faces as they also understood.

"What in the world were you two doing together that late at night!?"

The vice-headmistress screamed at the both of them, and Maddison turned towards her with her blush still in place!

"I don't have to tell you anything!"

"Maddison…!"

Francesca looked like she was about to blow a fucking fuse! Her head was red with anger, and there was a vein popping up in her neck! From the way the both of them spoke and the blush on Maddison's face, there was only one conclusion that Francesca could reach about what they had been doing together that night! How could they be having sex at their age!?

"I'm going to have a long talk with the both of you when this is done, do you understand!?"

Neither student answered, and the investigator sighed as she grabbed her recorder and clicked it off. The story seemed believable enough, and there were still a lot of other people that the investigator had to interview and look through. She couldn't be wasting time on two lovers.
