Chapter 2
Tracy sat idle in her office, smiling at the ceiling fan. She moved her wheeled chair front, back and sideways. The smoke puffing out from her cigarrete filled the atmosphere of the room, making it stuffier but she cared less.
She was Lugard Tate's secretary. Tracy was an ambitious lady. She had her eyes fixed on her boss wealth, hoping to have either a share or the entire company to herself. Her boss, not having a child was her only hope. She kept on having imaginations on how she was going to own the whole of Tate's Insurance company, how her life was going to change and how she was going to deal with Rhoda, who was her enemy for no solid reason.
Soon, her telephone rang and when she noticed that person on the line was her boss, she picked up the phone and assured her boss that she was coming right to his office.
When she reached the office, Lugard told her to go to his house to get a file.
"I'll tell my wife to give it to you. I think she'll be at home by now." Lugard said looking at the wall clock. He looked up and found his secretary smiling at him and he couldn't help but also smile back at her. They were very close to each other and also shared their secrets with each other, but Lugard was careful enough not to get out of boundaries. He had once told Tracy how he longed to have his own child one day and the lady had assured him that he will certainly get one.
He thought the lady was harmless but never knew what she had under her sleeves.
Tracy boarded a cab and went to her boss's house to get the file he asked her to get. On reaching there, Chole informed her that Rhoda had gone to the motherless babies' home to spend some time with the orphans.
It didn't sound surprising to Tracy. She smiled sheepishly and informed Chole about her mission. Chole then called her master and got the permission to get the file out of his room.
As Chole went to get the file, Tracy sat on the sofa and admired the house. "One day, all these would be mine," she said and laughed.
"What will be yours?" that question woke her from her useless imaginations. That was Chole voice, and it brought her back to reality.
"Oh! It's nothing! I was… oh Chole don't worry yourself." Tracy replied as she prayed silently that the girl didn't hear anything.
"Ok. I thought you were talking to me," Chole said and handed the file to Tracy.
"Thanks." Tracy said and hurried out of the house. She thanked her stars that Chole heard nothing. She would have been into a very big trouble if her boss or his wife had heard what she said.
