"You drugged me, fucking yes or no."
"I said calm the fuck down!" Claude yelled from the table they sat at in a five-star restaurant, a large window close to them on the private floor where they were. Evangeline trembled slightly, clutching her purse to herself, wishing she could hug her kids to calm the fear she was feeling right now.
"She is a fucking liar..."
"I did it. I did add..." She had barely completed her sentence before the sound of a glass shattering filled the air.
"Aren't you a bit..."
"Let me explain myself!" Evangeline yelled back, the veins on her neck popping. Claude smirked, leaning back into his chair, pouring himself a glass of light wine.
"I had no idea what kind of drug was in there, I swear. Your..." She paused, not knowing what she was supposed to do. Was she supposed to spill the truth that his wife had done it? That his wife had sent her to him, not telling her what the drug was but assuring her it would not kill him? That she was his wife and would not do anything to harm him?
"Who sent you? Ms. Evangeline Lancaster, is it?" Claude asked, coming to sit properly, resting his arms on the table. Eva was shocked at how they had found out her name so quickly. "The hospital you would be working with, the Wades own it, and this is Lucas Wade, the heir you brought down. Sad story." He clicked his tongue. Evangeline knew Soleil would be rich but not that she was the supposed Soleil Wade and this was her husband Lucas Wade. What had she gotten herself into?
"I..."
"Go straight to the point. Tell me why the fuck you did this, and I would spare your ass," Lucas's voice burned with hurt alongside anger. He barely looked like the man she had sex with eight years ago. He was a flirt who gave butterflies in the tummy, but this one, the broken man sitting right in front of her, gave her chills instead.
Contemplating whether to tell him the truth or not, Eva's phone began ringing in her purse. "Sabrina has been burning ever since we arrived here. I think she caught a fe..."
"Oh my God, I would be right there." Evangeline was quick to get up from where she sat.
"Trying to find ways to escape?"
"There is an emergency at home, and I need to be there real quick. I am sorry for whatever happened." She rushed out of the restaurant immediately, and a throaty laughter escaped Lucas's throat. "The bitch left. She told me sorry for the deep shit she had caused me."
"Are we getting a payback?"
"I would make sure she leaves the hospital."
The space the hospital had given them was perfect, a beautiful bungalow and a car, a perfect space for kids. Evangeline had tended to Sabrina's little fever from traveling.
Eva had difficulties sleeping at night, going through what had happened that day. Vivian had been pestering her to tell her what had happened, but she did not. Did he really get blind because of her? If that was true, what had she done? Why would Soleil give her something risky to her husband to cause him to go blind? What had transpired between them? Did Soleil lie to her? She had collected the money. Was she to be blamed for causing someone to feel miserable?
The headline of a popular newspaper in California alongside the media was filled with the news of the truth about Lucas Wade's blindness. A nurse from the Wades had happened to be the cause of Lucas Wade's accident eight years ago, getting drugs into the media king's drink. Photos and videos of when Lucas had confronted Eva outside of the hospital were dancing on the internet.
How could she be so cruel?
Such a woman should not be called a nurse. Who knows how many patients she would have killed?
Eva was getting ready to start her first day at the Wade hospital, ready to kiss her kids goodbye, but a loud knock jolted all of them. "I would get the door," Vivian said as she made her way out of the kitchen with her hands stained with flour paste. "He..." Before Vivian could get the chance to greet the people at the door and ask them who they were here for, she was suddenly hurled away from the door.
"We never expected this from you, Ms. Lancaster." Evangeline was stunned to have new faces of a woman and four other men in her house. "Sign this. You are no longer allowed to work with the Wades."
Her heart began thumping, her lips trembling to know what she had done. "Why? And who are you people?" Vivian asked, urging the kids who had gone stiff to go into one of the rooms.
"We work for the Wades, the hospital where Ms. Lancaster was supposed to work. We have evidence of what you have done to young master Wade." A tablet was passed to Eva, and she took it. A video of her sitting on Lucas's lap at the club and a zoomed-in video of how she had dropped a pill in his drink played. Then she watched Lucas confront her about drugging him outside the hospital.
"Oh my. I... oh my," she was speechless. It felt like her vocals were pulled out of her that instant.
"We want you out of the house. Sign this and get it back to the hospital immediately." A letter of resignation was handed to Eva, the tablet taken back as these new faces made their way outside.
"What the fuck just happened? You need to explain what is going on to me," Vivian shook Eva who looked like she was going to faint, her face getting paler by the second. "Talk to me."
Lucas stood by the liquor cabinet as he poured himself alcohol into a glass filled with ice cubes. "How does it feel being blind, ex-husband?" Soleil came behind him, caressing his hair from behind and back down to the band of his suit pants. "Why do blind people make great comedians? Because they are always in the dark about what is going on." She laughed, leaning into his back. "Isn't it funny, Mr. All Too Perfect?"
Lucas made no statement, downing the contents in the glass, some ice cubes hitting the back of his throat.
"Are you deaf too? I want to tell you good news. I am pregnant with your brother's child, yes, the brother you caught me with and decided to divorce me after telling me how you would stay with me through thick and thin. You would be having a nephew soon. Isn't that cute?"
Soleil was suddenly gasping for breath when Lucas caught her by her throat in one swift move, pinning her to the kitchen cabinet as she choked. "She is not the one, right? Lie between those godforsaken lips of yours that you are not behind all this." He yelled into her face, and Soleil was shocked, fear eating her up. "You paid her to put that drug in my drink. You used her, did you not." His hand tightened more around her neck until her eyes were almost popping out of their sockets.
"Please... I do not know w..."
Lucas's hand left her neck with a force that had her falling to the floor.
"Lucas..." his name came out like a squeak from her lips, tears streaming down her face. "I do not know what you are talking about."
"Say that again, and I would make a real mess out of you. The videos on the net right now, who made those videos? Because I did not post that, and I am sure she would not."
"You are blind, Lucas. You do not know what is going on," she yelled before scampering out of the house immediately.
"Young master Lucas, Ms. Lancaster is back in the hospital, and the cops are there already. It is not a scene to watch. What should we do?"
"Tell them to stop whatever actions they are going to take. She is mine to deal with."
