"Brent, are you sure you want to recommend Harrington for the American Classified Scientific Research Project?"
"This project will last for ten years. You two will be apart for a long time."
The project manager looked at me, his eyes full of shock and confusion.
In the company, Harrington and I were known as the model couple. The story of how Harrington nearly drained all his blood to save me was still circulating.
Looking at the surveillance video on my phone, Harrington and his junior were intertwined on our bed.
I nodded firmly.
"Yes, I want to be apart from him."
Since Harrington chose to betray me, he must bear the cost of losing me.
Only, the one who should leave is him, not me.

Stepping out of the manager's office, I ran into a few colleagues who smiled and congratulated me.
"Brent, congratulations! I guess we'll be drinking to your and Harrington's wedding soon, huh?"
"I heard Harrington scoured every flower shop in New York City just to fill the venue with Brent's favorite lily of the valley."
"Those flowers are nothing. Remember when they were working on that project in Africa? Brent got hurt and was bleeding out. Harrington was ready to give his life to save Brent."
Seeing the envy in their eyes, I absentmindedly touched the diamond ring on my finger, feeling a bit dazed.
A month ago, Harrington proposed to me.
He had meticulously planned this proposal for over three months, personally handling everything from the venue setup to the entire process.
I was moved to tears as everyone watched.
He made a promise in front of my parents.
"Brent, I will love you for the rest of my life. My blood flows in your veins. We are destined to be lifelong lovers, and I will never betray you."
At that moment, I thought I would be happy forever. On the very next day, I woke up and inadvertently found an unfamiliar earring under my pillow.
That same day, Harrington's junior, Melody, posted a photo of that earring on her social media, claiming it was a gift from her secret crush and that she had lost the other one.
I secretly connected the bedroom surveillance camera to power without telling Harrington.
The camera was originally installed by Harrington when he went on a business trip. At that time, there had been a series of home invasions in New York City, and he was worried about me being alone at home.
Ironically, now I'm using it to catch him cheating.
A few days later, I was asked to stay late at work when my phone suddenly received an alert from the surveillance camera.
I opened the feed to see Harrington and Melody lying naked on the bed, entangled with each other.
Melody had her arms around Harrington's neck, cooing coyly.
"Senior, be with me."
Harrington, breathing heavily, suddenly froze, his gaze instantly turning cold.
"Get a grip. I'll only ever love Brent in this lifetime."
"I told you that I'm only with you for excitement, and when I marry Sue-Ann, I'll be out of touch."
The tears ran down Melody's face like rain.
"I only fell in love with you because I was greedy. Are you really going to be so cruel to me?"
Harrington immediately pulled her into his arms to comfort her when he saw her crying. The two became entangled again, letting out a series of intimate sounds.
My hand holding the phone trembled uncontrollably, my vision blurred by tears.
A strange, sharp pain stabbed through my chest, making it hard to breathe.
When I got home after work, Melody was already long gone. Harrington emerged from the kitchen carrying a steaming bowl of pear soup.
"Tired from working late? Come wash up and have a late-night snack."
As I walked in, he finally noticed my swollen eyes, immediately becoming worried and concerned.
"Brent, what happened to your eyes? Who bullied you?"
Seeing that I wouldn't speak, he picked up his phone to call and interrogate the coworkers I had been working late with.
I stopped him.
"Nobody bullied me. I watched a movie tonight where the male lead kept professing his love for the female lead, but ended up betraying her. I felt sad for her."Harrington let out a sudden sigh of relief.
"Brent, movies are all fake. I would never make you upset."
"Harrington, if one day you stop loving me, tell me, and we can part ways."
He pouted and pulled me into his embrace.
"Brent, I will absolutely never leave you."
I smelled Melody's perfume on his collar, my eyes filled with sorrow.
I had given him a chance, but he didn't come clean.
For the following month, whenever I worked overtime, my phone would pop up with surveillance alerts.
Perhaps due to the approaching wedding date, their meetings became increasingly frequent.
The sudden exclamation of my coworker snapped me out of my memories.
"Brent, Harrington is so good to you! He even sends you flowers when you're working on the weekend."
