Snapping at her

Kate

"How was your weekend, Kate?" Xavier asks me as we're on the elevator, on our way to our office floor.

"It was great. Thanks for asking."

"What? You're not gonna ask how mine went?"

I laugh, realising my mistake. "How was your weekend, boss?"

"It was alright." He shrugs.

"Okay." Well, this is awkward.

"Anyways, I reckon everything's ready for today's shoot?"

"Yes. Leave it to me."

We get out of the elevator to our floor.

"I know I can count on you." I make my way to my desk.

"Speaking of. Can you make sure that she's well taken care of? I don't want her to feel out of place or anything."

I'm so confused. "I'm talking about Riley."

"Oh."

"Thank you." Xavier enters his office, leaving me clutching my phone tightly.

Riley is a grown adult who's been in this modelling industry for years, so why would she need babysitting?!

I roll my eyes in frustration. How I wish I could be Riley right now.

Why can't he just notice me and how much I truly love him? This is so frustrating!

When the time came, I went down to the 5th floor, where Riley's shoot was going to take place. The model in question was already here, having her makeup done for the first part of the shoot.

I stood behind the camera setup along with other colleagues who, just like me, were in awe of how good Riley is at this. Her poise, coupled with the makeup and outfit, was just superb. Riley looked breathtaking, I guess.

"Good work, Riley! Let's take 5." The director announced.

Riley was led to her changing room, escorted by her makeup team and a few staff members who couldn't stop fangirling over her.

"Kate, she's calling for you." Linda beckoned me.

"Who?"

"Riley. She's in changing room 3."

I wonder what she wants from me. I reluctantly followed Linda's directions, and after being told to enter, I made my entrance in changing room 3.

Riley was out of her previous outfit and makeup, back to her old outfit and makeup.

"Oh, Kate just the person I need." Riley says, smiling.

I just looked at her, wanting nothing more than to get out of here.

"I really need to leave like right now, so could you cover for me."

Excuse you?

I scoff.

"I really need to attend to something super important." She gets up with her bag in hand, ready to leave.

"... and why would I do that for you? Do you think that just because you're acquainted with Xavier, then you can do as you please? Don't you even have a sense of duty and professionalism?!" I didn't mean to rash out like this, but here we are.

Riley's taken aback. "Kate, just hear me out..."

"Everyone's been busy with making sure that today's shoot goes on well, and what, you just wanna leave? Don't make me laugh. Stop acting like a spoiled brat!" I finish my piece and exit the changing room, not waiting for her reply.

I guess I was raising my voice because when I made it out of the changing room, everyone was staring at me and others mumbling to themselves.

'Whatever, she needed to hear it.' I reassure myself. I mean, she shouldn't get the special treatment just coz.

After about 30 minutes, Riley gets back to the last part of today's shoot with new makeup and outfit. Fortunately, the shoot goes well.

"Great work, Riley. Good job everyone, let's call it a day."

Riley disappears to her changing room as the others pack up the cameras, other equipments and other things used for the shoot.
