Crazy

Josh

The car ride back home is silent, and we both know why.

"Did you really do that to her?" Kate stays silent, still looking out her window. "Kate."

She turns to look at me. "Why you asking when you already know the answer."

"Why?"

She scoffs. "Chloe's a b*tch. She had it coming."

I hang my mouth open, in disbelief. "Are you kidding me?"

"Look, Josh. I'm not gonna sit here and have you belate me."

"Then explain it to me. You're not like this, Kate."

"I'm not what? The naive, innocent Kate you knew. Well, I'm sorry, Josh, but I'll never allow anyone to walk all over me again" Kate gets out, slamming the car door.

I quickly follow her as she enters my apartment. "Kate, talk to me."

She paces back and forth in the living room.

"She had the audacity to give Janet my home address. That's how that woman found me, Josh!"

"I understand that what she did is bad enough, but there was another way to go about it."

She chuckles. "You're unbelievable, Josh." She points her finger at my chest. "You said you'll always have my back, but look at you now, taking Chloe's side of all people."

"Kate..."

"It's no problem. It's fine." She nods her head, wiping her tears as she slams the bedroom door in my face and locks me out.

"Kate, please." I sigh, going to the guest bedroom after realising that she won't let me in no matter how many times I plead with her.

The next morning.

After getting ready for work, I'm surprised to see Kate smiling at me as she leads me to the dining table to have breakfast.

"Good morning, babe. Look, I made breakfast."

"Kate."

"Let's just enjoy breakfast. We can talk about the serious stuff another time."

We make it through breakfast in silence.

"I just wanted to hurt her just as bad as she has done to me over the years." Kate breaks the silence between us.

"I know."

"Does that mean you aren't mad at me?"

"Maybe?" She smiles.

"I actually need to tell you something."

"Okay."

"I did something really bad."

"What did you do, Kate?"

"I spiked Riley's drink some time back, and that caused her car accident."

"What?!"

"I wasn't in my right state of mind. I promise, it was an accident."

"Kate!" I get up from the table.

"Don't be mad, Josh." She clutches my arm.

"When was it?"

"Last month." She hung her head, low.

I scoff. "I don't know who you are anymore."

I rush out the door, leaving Kate behind. Just how crazy has she become? This is not the girl I love!
