The nerve of that girl

Kate

"There's no way. Nah, he wouldn't do that to me."

"Kate, we both know what we saw."

I keep pacing back and forth. "It has to be wrong."

"Kate."

"No, Josh. I know him, he..."

"Breathe, Kate, come on." Josh helps calm me down from the panic attack I was starting to experience.

"What did I do to deserve that from him?"

"I don't know, Kate."

We stay in silence as I come to terms with the fact that Xavier, of all people, was behind my kidnapping. I gathered that it happened just when Riley was admitted to the hospital for that brain surgery or whatever.

"Was this his way of teaching me a lesson all because I scolded his fiancée for acting like a spoiled brat?"

"I don't know. Anything is possible at this point." I scoff, in disbelief.

"So, what are you gonna do?"

"I'll have my revenge. To think I really liked him."

"Are you sure about this?" I nod.

"Okay. I'll help you so you don't get in legal trouble."

"Deal."

Xavier has it coming. Who the heck gets someone kidnapped to be beaten to a pulp just because a fiancée of theirs got scolded for once in their lives.

Just you wait, Xavier darling. Revenge is a dish best served cold!... and karma is one freaking b*tch.

We talk through our plan, and so far, I like it. To hurt Xavier where it hurts most, I need to target Riley. The pain I went through was pure torture, and I'mma make sure that Xavier and Riley experience it too.

I decided to report back to work like nothing's happened.

"Oh, hey girl. It's been a while since we saw you around. It's good to have you back."

Linda greets me with a hug. "... by the way, Ms. Riley's also reported back for work today, too."

"That's great."

I make my way to Xavier's office to hand him the files that need his signatures. After allowing me to come in when I knocked, I'm greeted with the sight of Riley on his lap, laughing.

"Good morning, boss."

"Good morning, Kate. You're finally back to work, I see."

"Yes. Here are the files."

"Just put them there, I'll have a look at them."

He doesn't spare me another glance.

As I get to my desk, I'm suddenly spun around forcefully when a slap lands on my cheek.

I turned to look at who the heck just slapped me, and you would never guess. Riley.

"Are you crazy?!" I clutch my cheek.

"You should be asking yourself that. You lucky you aren't locked away in jail right now."

"You know I can report you for workplace assault, right? I'm sure your image won't handle taking another hit."

She laughs like I just said something funny.

"Oh honey. You're pathetic if you think you stand a chance against me. Don't try me."

She walks away after forcefully brushing my shoulder. The nerve of that girl. I hate her!
