Chapter 9

"You're right to want to avoid the issue, aren't you?"

He stared at me intently, as if trying to see straight through my eyes into the depths of my heart.

I shifted uncomfortably. "What am I avoiding?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about."

"Scarlett, I know you're not a coward. Hiding here won't solve anything."

"I hope you can face what's in your heart and live the life you truly want."

It wasn't until I left the West that I realized I'd forgotten to ask him how he knew what kind of person I was.

I moved to a new city and used the money my mom left me to open a vet clinic. I also rescued stray cats, treating them and then finding them homes.

I hoped that no more kittens in this world would die from illness.

As for Ethan, I submitted evidence of his betrayal to the law firm and filed for divorce.

Ethan quickly tracked down my new address.

"Scarlett, what's the meaning of this? Are you dead set on divorcing me?"

"Yes."
