Takahiro (5)

Yushiro disappeared upstairs, but I could swear I heard his heartbeat quicken ever so slightly. Miss Blade, usually calm and composed with an air of cool indifference, clenched her teeth tightly. Her usual laid-back demeanor had cracked, revealing an irritation that sent a ripple of tension through the room.

"Umm... Miss Blade?" I called out hesitantly.

Her sharp gaze snapped to me, eyes flashing. "What is it!?"

Flustered, I stumbled over my words. "Er... what did my brother take?"

Her face flushed crimson, the redness spreading all the way to her ears. "N-None of your business!" she snapped before storming back upstairs, her footsteps echoing in the silence she left behind.

Truth and Marko exchanged unreadable glances as they watched her leave. Truth turned to me, his expression a complex mix of curiosity and concern.

"Does your younger brother have some kind of special power or something?" he asked cautiously.

I shook my head, brows furrowed. "No... I don't think so. Why?"

"I've never seen Blade lose her cool like that," he replied, the weight of his words settling between us.

"Huh..." I muttered, more confused than ever.

Without another word, Truth and Marko shrugged in unison and headed toward the bar. I sat down beside Kenji, frowning. The thought of Yushiro getting us into trouble gnawed at me. The raw energy Miss Blade unleashed earlier still sent chills down my spine.

Yushiro might be stronger than Kenji and me, but there's no way he could stand against our seniors. His arrogance could be our downfall, and the thought made my fists clench in frustration.

A gentle tap on my shoulder startled me. I turned to see Kenji grinning at me.

"What is it?" I asked, confused.

Kenji's grin widened. "Wanna go train?"

My brow furrowed. "Train? Now? Why?"

He chuckled, his excitement almost contagious. "Feeling Blade's power just now... it gave me chills, but also a thrill. It made me want to push myself harder. Doesn't it excite you, Taka? That rush of adrenaline? The challenge?"

I stared at him, incredulous. Wasn't he scared, too?

Kenji picked up his sword from the seat beside him and walked to the door. Before stepping out, he turned back to me with a fierce grin. "If I want to be the greatest knight, I have to get stronger. That means surpassing Blade... and even that old bastard Captain."

He extended his hand toward me. "So, what do you say, brother? Will you hunt with me?"

A slow smile spread across my face. "Of course. A wolf never hunts alone when it has a pack."

Grabbing my own sword, I clasped Kenji's hand firmly, ready for whatever awaited us next.
