"I'm sorry…" I whisper.

"It's not your fault, Astrid. Some may call me crazy for even thinking of having her back. But what can I do? A heart wants what it wants. No matter if the other person returns it or not."

What did he mean by that? His mate didn't love him? What kind of woman wouldn't want him? I must have heard him wrong.

"I bet you two must have been a power couple. She must have been sweet and loving," I try to joke, letting out a chuckle, though a strange pain roots in my chest. The very thought of him loving someone so deeply made me feel… strange. It couldn't be jealousy, right? Why would I be jealous?

"She was indeed. Too sweet. Too innocent, yet too intelligent. Unlike other women who go crazy for love, she always used her brain before her heart. And maybe that's why she didn't choose me…"
