I rested my head on the novel's pages... and my vision began to blur.
Tick tock.
The clock on the wall behind me ticked quietly as I gradually drifted into a deep sleep.
Tick!
At the stroke of midnight, the sound ceased... I felt something wrong.
"The clock...?"
Maybe the battery has run out...I will sleep on the bed. I got up from the chair quietly while touching the pages of the novel before I left. I don't know if this is out of respect for it or if I'm afraid to continue my life without it.
"Arin Drivyn."
A very distant sound made me feel as if my back was being hit...the sounds had all disappeared after that, leaving me in a moment of complete silence with ringing in my ears.
"Huh?"
I was nervous...
"Arin Drivyn."
The voice started roaring in my room. I fell to my knees from its intensity as if lightning had struck next to me!?
In a moment, I opened my eyes... Everything around me was white... I was floating in the void. I looked at my hands, hoping I'd wake up soon.
"Arin."
The voice came from behind me and went on forever, it was majestic and dense, I looked up and saw a throne behind it and on either side a wall, a floor, a ceiling, all slowly fading away.
I didn't say anything. I just looked up and lifted my head, there was a man with short white hair, black eyes and white fancy clothes.
He was sitting on his throne with his heart pierced and blood coming out of his mouth... with a firm voice he said:
"Arin, answer."
His calm, seemingly otherworldly voice sent shivers down my spine, and when I regained consciousness, I replied in fear:
"W-what...?"
I was relieved at the same time, I had the feeling that I was dreaming... I looked at the man with his black eyes as everything around him slowly faded away:
"Arin, I am the Inkeer, this is where Kyle was a few minutes ago, before he followed the Nothing to the end... Arin, save this world, and if you succeed, I promise I will grant you your wish..."
Without stuttering despite the blood dripping from his mouth as he spoke, his voice remained normal... Here, I realized that perhaps I wasn't dreaming.
I opened my mouth and my eyes widened when I heard his offer, but I truly didn't understand what was happening... Kyle? Was he here...? What's going on...
"What… What is this? Where am I?!"
I said in fear, not knowing where I was and what was happening...
"You will... fulfill my wish?"
These words, which I could hardly believe, painted some hope in my soul... In a few moments my mother, father and sister flashed through my mind, the Inkeer answered me before the fading reached his throne:
"This world...was not just ink on paper, the dreams of everyone in it were not just words...including Kyle, Arin, this is my world that I tried to protect with everything I had...will you save it?"
The sight of the Inkeer was truly hopeless... Originally the Inkeer was the character that controlled the world in Kyle Among the Shadows, and there was a revolution that wanted to remove the Inkeer from his rule and they succeeded and the world disappeared...is this place the world...?
"I... I don't really know..."
This is madness, what's happening now is madness!! I lowered my head, staring at the endless void below me, thinking about what I should do...
"Will you save the world for me... Arin?"
This time, his words weren't cold; his tone was slightly fearful... I snapped back to reality and thought deeply...
"Save Kyle... Arin."
It wasn't an order or a request, it was a reproach. The novel "Kyle Between Shadows" had always been with me during my hard times; it was always my salvation and my pleasure... He wants me to repay him.
By nature, I am a coward and I am afraid of the unknown. I was thinking of refusing until the memories began to pour down on me like rain. I remembered those small details...my father's wrinkles, my mother's mole near her smile.
I looked at him firmly and said:
"I...agree."
