Luc slumped in his chair, arms crossed, staring blankly at the board. His soul had already left his body.
First, the stupid quiz.
Now? Actual demon hunting?
His brain refused to process.
Instructor Vale stood at the front of the class, her sharp eyes scanning the students. "Congratulations. You all passed the first test—the quiz."
The students cheered. Some high-fived. Luc just blinked in disbelief.
Wait, that was a test?!
Vale continued, "Now, we begin the next phase of your training. But don't worry—we're starting small."
Luc's stomach dropped. Oh no.
"You will each be assigned a low-level demon to exorcise," she said casually. "This will help us determine your combat skills and class placement."
Luc's mind broke.
EXORCISE. A. DEMON.
He gripped the edge of his desk. What kind of school is this?!
A student raised a hand. "Will we be in teams?"
Vale nodded. "Yes. You'll work in pairs for this test."
Luc let out a slow breath. Okay, okay. Maybe he could get someone strong to carry him through this.
Then—
"Luc."
Luc froze.
Vale was looking straight at him.
"You'll be going first."
His soul left his body for real this time.
