Chapter 17:The Council of Elders

A dimly lit chamber. Shadows stretched along the walls as the Council of Elders sat in their semi-circle, their faces unreadable. The air was thick with quiet authority—this was where the fate of threats to humanity was decided.

A voice, calm yet commanding, cut through the silence.

"The boy has been placed in the school, as planned."

Another voice, smooth and calculating, responded from the far side. "Solix, you still believe this is the right choice? A demon, unchecked, inside our ranks?"

The woman called Solix adjusted her glasses, a small, knowing smirk playing on her lips. "We needed a controlled environment to observe him. If he proves dangerous, we act."

Umbra Shroud, his voice a whisper of darkness, interjected. "Dangerous? He already is. You saw the readings, didn't you? His energy isn't normal for an ordinary stray. We don't even know what he is."

A sharp scoff from Rayna, the youngest among them. She leaned forward, arms crossed. "Then why let him roam free? Why take the risk?"

Damon, ever the voice of balance, responded in his deep, measured tone. "Because eliminating him without understanding what he is would be reckless. And we have another problem—" he glanced around the room, "—Takeshi."

Silence. A heavy, uncomfortable pause.

Vera finally spoke, her voice like frost. "You mean the former Council member who walked away years ago? The same man who now conveniently shields this demon?"

Solix nodded. "Takeshi isn't just protecting the boy—he's daring us to make a move."

"Tch. Arrogant as ever," Rayna muttered. "And why exactly is he protecting a demon? What's his endgame?"

Thaddeus Solari chuckled under his breath, leaning back in his seat. "Now, that's the real question, isn't it?" His golden eyes gleamed with amusement. "You're all so focused on Luc that you're forgetting who the real wildcard is."

Umbra Shroud's voice came like a whisper of smoke. "If we decide to act… we'll have to go through Takeshi first."

Another silence. The weight of that reality sank in.

Takeshi wasn't just another exorcist. He was one of them—a former Elder, someone who knew their strategies, their weaknesses, their rules. Killing a demon was one thing. Fighting him was an entirely different problem.

Damon exhaled slowly. "Then we wait. We watch. And if the boy steps out of line, we move—but we do it carefully."

Vera's fingers tapped against the table. "And what if Takeshi moves against us first?"

Solix smirk returned. "Then we'll see if the legend of Takeshi is as terrifying as they say."

The meeting ended, tension still hanging in the air.

Luc was being watched. The Council didn't know what he was, only that he was dangerous. And if it came to it, they were prepared to eliminate him.

But they all knew the truth.

Before they could get to Luc…

They had to survive Takeshi.
