The Others

Ethan scanned the list, his pulse steady but his mind racing. Dozens of names. People marked as anomalies, just like him. Some had timestamps next to them. Some were already gone.

Lyra's voice was tight. "How many of these people are still alive?"

The man didn't answer immediately. He tapped a few keys, filtering the data. Half the names flickered red—erased. The remaining names had a countdown beside them. Hours. Days. The longest one had a week.

Ethan clenched his jaw. "They're accelerating the process."

The man nodded. "Project Requiem was reinstated under Directive Zero. No more experiments. No more studying. Just erasure. Permanent, without possibility of reentry."

Lyra's fingers curled near her weapon. "So why did they wait this long to finish it?"

The man exhaled. "Because you, Ethan, were an outlier. Every time they erased you, you came back. And you weren't the only one."

Ethan's gaze snapped to him. "Who else?"

The man hesitated. Then he pulled up a single file. One name. One record.

Ethan's breath slowed. Cassandra Voss.

Lyra inhaled sharply. "That's… Malik's sister."

Ethan didn't blink. Malik had never talked about family. Most people in the syndicate assumed he had none. But Cassandra's name was here. And her status wasn't red. She was still alive.

The man's voice was even. "She was the first anomaly."

Ethan processed that in silence. If she had survived, if she had found a way to escape, then she knew more than anyone else. She had answers.

Lyra crossed her arms. "Where is she?"

The man hesitated. "That's the problem. She disappeared three years ago. No traces. No loops detected. Nothing. The Time Loop Bank marked her as unresolved."

Ethan frowned. "Then why is she still on the list?"

The man's expression darkened. "Because three days ago, someone accessed her file from inside the Time Loop Bank."

The weight of those words settled over them. If Cassandra was still alive, then she was hiding for a reason. And if someone inside the system was looking for her, it meant they had found something.

Lyra's voice was sharp. "And if they find her?"

The man's reply was cold. "She'll be erased. Completely."

Ethan exhaled, his decision already made. "Then we find her first."
