chapter 48: Diana turn

After uttering their last resentful words, the five demons were obliterated by the thunder.

"It's the first time I've seen someone speak with such shamelessness so justifiably. It's good. I'm optimistic about you!" Dane said, his mood lightened and amused by Constantine.

"I don't have many merits, but honesty is one of them," Constantine replied, unapologetic.

Dane glanced around at the dead demons scattered on the ground, nodding perfunctorily. "Ah, right."

After the laughter faded, Constantine's expression grew more serious.

"Nilgai is hard to kill here. If we don't finish him off, he might escape."

The old demon Nilgai had just been struck down once by Dane's thunder, but it wasn't truly dead. It had likely fled somewhere within the manor to regenerate.

As for where it went, both Dane and Constantine could guess—most likely, it had hidden in the crowded stage hall.

Nilgai, a demon with a peculiar fetish, liked to gather captured humans for twisted parties. At these gatherings, he and his demonic minions tortured the unfortunate souls to generate negative energy.

But if Nilgai thought hiding there would give him an advantage for the coming fight, he was sorely mistaken.

Dane replied to Constantine, "What do you think Batman and Diana are doing?"

Before Constantine could answer, the entire haunted house suddenly shook. The ceiling collapsed, burying the blood pool beneath it.

It also buried the sins and blasphemy that had festered within the manor.

"May your remnants rest in peace."

Dane, holding the scepter in his hand, emanated an aura of dark yet merciful energy. The power of death radiated from it.

Beneath the rubble, from corners and cracks in the walls, souls with gaping wounds began to rise.

The scepter pulsed with gentle white light, and the black gas swirling in its center formed a vortex, pulling in the remnants of souls.

The death god is not a cold, indifferent force—he is a messenger of the soul's passage. Dane didn't concern himself with the actions of the souls in life. He didn't judge their deeds, nor condemn them for dealing with demons.

In the face of death, all souls are equal.

Regardless of the wrongs they committed, Dane hoped that death would provide solace, the final shred of peace for their troubled spirits.

"Thank you..."

"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry..."

"Lord, forgive me for my sins..."

"Lisa, my Lisa, I'm truly sorry..."

"Fuck. Demon! You... Hear me? Fuck you!!"

Dane listened to the whispers in his ear, the final murmurs of the dead.

Some whispered words of thanksgiving, others of repentance, and some screamed in their last moments of defiance.

But in just a few moments, they would all return to the embrace of death.

Constantine watched in shock. With his eyes, he could see that only a "god" could manifest within Dane's form. It was bright enough to blind his eyes!

"What the hell are you?" Constantine asked, disbelief.

He was certain that the Shazam had never been like this. Dane was on the verge of becoming a true death god!

Dane raised an eyebrow, the godhead in his hand now tucked away He hadn't expected his efforts to succeed, but with compassion now guiding him, he had earned the godhead.

He had become the new god of death. Though it was only a Aztec god, it was still a true godhood!

Here, in the Americas, he now held the power to curse anyone who met their end.

"You can't go up and down?" Dane asked.

Constantine shook his head vigorously.

"What do you want me to do with my little arms and legs? Feed Nilgai? I'm not going to add to the chaos."

"Fine, then you can leave first."

"What's that?" Constantine asked, a little embarrassed.

"John, let's talk."

"Alright, that's it. Tracey—"

"Don't worry, we'll rescue her. It's a promise from one god."

With that, Dane slammed the scepter, and Constantine was sent out of the Demon Manor.

Still stunned, Constantine stood outside for a moment before muttering, "You're the god of death!"

"You've got to bring people back to life!" he shouted, frustrated.

Dane tucked the scepter away and flew up toward the open ceiling.

In the main hall of the manor, there were no living humans left, just Nilgai and his minions.

Nilgai was furious. He had just been healed and was about to captured humans for his twisted purposes. But they were all stolen from him!

And the thief wasn't some random person—he knew this human well. It was the same one who had killed him the night before.

Dressed in a ridiculous costume with pointy ears—Nilgai sneered. Who did he think he was?

Nilgai in hatred and thought, I'll eat you alive on the spot!

He had coveted Constantine's soul for some time. It was a complex, unique soul—one he'd never encountered before in his demonic career.

Without hesitation, Nilgai decided to try and consume him. But just as he made his move, the freak with the chin-shaped raised his arm and fired a small missile.

Ridiculous! Nilgai thought. How could I fall for the same trick twice? He put up a magical shield, confident that he was safe.

Boom!

The nth Metal Missile exploded, and Nilgai's magical shield crumbled, completely useless.

After all, not even a divine body could withstand the power of the Bomb, let alone a demon.

This made the third time Nilgai had died in two days! And now, the energy source of the manor—humans—had been removed, transferred by Batman to the outside. Even he had left, while Nilgai lay dead once again.

Nilgai was desperate. he had thought that even without living humans, the residual souls could help with the immediate crisis. But now even those were gone.

Who could clean up the battlefield so thoroughly? Nilgai realized that the manor had been surrounded.

It couldn't just teleport back to Hell now, and there was no way out of the manor.

"Los Angeles!" Nilgai suddenly remembered—the city spirit.

"One by one, all of them are useless!"

Both Constantine and Los Angeles had made deals with him, only to betray him. Who, then, is the real demon?

It was a moment of true dilemma for Nilgai. Suddenly, a woman crashed through the ceiling, landing. She slammed her shield into the ground with one hand, sending sparks flying.

Nilgai's heart skipped a beat when it saw her gear. Its vision was sharp, and it could immediately tell that these were "holy weapons." But how could a human, even one wielding such divine weaponry

Before it could finish that thought, Diana charged forward. As soon as her foot hit the ground, the ground shattered under the force.

This was no mere human! Nilgai almost cursed aloud as it grabbed a nearby demon and hurled it at her.

But Diana was quicker. She slashed through the demon with the Vulcan Sword in one swift motion. The cut was so clean until the body hit the floor.

Diana didn't stop there. She moved so quickly that multiple afterimages flickered around her as she stormed through the hall.

Nilgai continued to throw its demons at her, but each one was cut down by her blade. he trembled. This woman was no ordinary warrior— Then, without warning, Nilgai found itself bound by a rope glowing with golden light, unable to move.

"Pay for all the innocents you've mutilated!" Diana cried. "Demon!"

"50 power stones for a bonus chapter."
