Chapter 10: Water
Illusion
In the middle of the
night, red quietly opened her eyes. She
had just heard some strange noises, like the sound of something sliding on the
floor.
red turned her head
to look in the direction where the sound came from, and saw a water ball
floating in the air and Reinette lying on it, but she was different from the Reinette
in red's memory.
"How did my
mother's feathers turn into horns?" The beautiful blue feathers on Reinette's
head that she saw during the day had
turned into a pair of slightly curved large horns, also she saw a glimpse of
cross on her eyes.
The sound of
something rubbing on the ground was heard again. red raised his body slightly and looked down,
only to see a tail with blue scales sliding on the ground.
???
Ababa Ababa.
red's eyes revealed
a feeling that was not polluted by knowledge, although this situation was also
a spectacle in the eyes of most Terrans.
Her mother suddenly
grew extra parts, her ears trembled excitedly, and she reached out to grab the
tail that was swinging on the ground.
"Hmm~ I can't
reach it..."
red shook her ears.
Even though she stretched out her hand, she couldn't hook the tail that seemed
so close.
The tail seemed to
know that red was trying to catch it,
and playfully placed itself at a distance where it looked like it could be
caught, but in reality, red could never
catch it unless he got excited.
"Hmm..."
The red tail seemed to slap the water under it in dissatisfaction, making a
puffing sound.
"I can't catch
it, but mom said I can't get up and I need to continue to rest..."
And on the other
side.
Reinette stretched
lazily, stretched her body, then stood up and stepped into the water.
As she stepped in,
faint blue light spots emerged from under the dark water surface, surrounding
the setting moon.
Under the
illumination of the light spots, the originally dark sea surface became
magnificent and radiant, like a fluorescent sea of stars.
"Woo~~~~~~"
Suddenly, a low and ethereal sound came from under the water. Under the water
around Reinette, it seemed as if a huge black shadow was swimming around Reinette.
Finally, the shadow
under the water surface suddenly grew larger, and then a small bump seemed to
be pushed up on the water surface, and the bump quickly grew larger.
The black shadow
leaped up, forcibly breaking free from the water surface, and a large amount of
water was brought up by it. Under the illumination of the faint blue light, the
black shadow was actually a huge whale. Free from the barrier of water, the whale
song became even more ethereal.
Then, the whale fell,
stirring up a huge wave, which covered the setting moon head-on and obscured
it.
At this moment, the
light in the water also illuminated Reinette's face. On that calm face, her
eyes were tightly closed.
Reinette opened her
eyes and saw red staring at her. She
stood up with a smile and stroked the water with her tail. The water shook and
transformed into a chair.
After sitting down, Reinette
noticed that red was staring behind her.
She smiled at red and then wagged her
tail in front of her.
"Red is curious
about my tail?"
red nodded quickly.
Reinette manipulated
the water chair to move it forward and sat next to the operating bed. She
stretched her tail to red's hand and
operated the water mattress that she had made for red last night to raise it, allowing red to sit.
red grabbed the tail
beside him with shining eyes and began to stroke it again and again.
[It's not red's favorite texture, but red also likes her mother's tail.]
red held Reinette's
tail and stroked it continuously, then pulled it to her face and rubbed it.
Of course, what red is doing now can't be free. Reinette is
also playing with red's tail at this
moment.
[It feels quite
comfortable, but the ends are a bit split, maybe it's due to lack of
maintenance?]
The two people
touched each other for a while before reluctantly letting go of each other.
"Okay, it's time
for us to get going."
When Reinette stood
up, the chair behind her turned into a ball of water again, wrapping her tail.
Then, the tail seemed to be assimilated into Reinette's body as if by the ball
of water, and the horns on her head also turned into a ball of water, which
slowly turned into feathers.
Looking at red's inquiring eyes, Reinette touched red's head.
"This is a
secret. Mom is neither Liberi, nor a dragon from Yan Country, nor Veuivre."
Looking at red Tian's innocent eyes, Reinette patted his
forehead.
"Sorry, I forgot
that you lost your memory. You don't quite understand what those races
represent just now, right? Well, it's okay. Mom will teach you slowly."
"Uh-huh."
Reinette turned
around and pushed open the door of the infirmary.
...
"Don't let your
wound get wet for the next two days, and drink less alcohol. Although for
mercenaries like you, this may not be possible."
"Hahahaha, Miss Tiamat,
wine is indispensable for us mercenaries."
"Try to drink
less. It's 500 Lungmen dollar or equivalent." Reinette turned around to
clean the surgical instruments and prepare surgical consumables.
"No problem, no
problem. It's just as cheap as the rumors say. If only those damn doctors in
hospitals and clinics is the same as Miss
Doctor, they would be so kind."
"I don't care
about that little bit of money." Reinette replaced the blade of the
scalpel and replied casually.
Reinette really
didn't care about the little money they gave her. She would earn system
currency by performing treatment, and the currency could be used to buy various
medical consumables from the system at a low price.
There are also
various medical consumables that Thor Industries sponsors for free for some
unknown reason.
Although Reinette had
not been to the companies opened by Thor Industries in various mobile cities
for a long time because she was completely unable to accept this gift from no
reason.
Reinette also never
touched the bank card that was originally given to her for advertising fees.
To sum up, Reinette
has no shortage of the money given by the mercenaries. Accepting the money is
just to reassure them. At least this is a transaction, not an unwarranted
goodwill.
For the sensitive
mercenaries, it is better to make the deal clearer than to project unwarranted
goodwill.
The mercenary took
out a small bag from the backpack he brought, walked to the side, and handed it
to red who was sitting on the chair.
red took the bag
from the mercenary, opened it, and saw that it contained the folded mercenary
dog tags.
After counting the
number, red nodded, reached out to the
table next to him, opened the box marked with number four, and threw the
mercenary dog tag
in the bag into it.
It has to be said
that the equivalents used by these mercenaries are also all kinds of strange.
There are as many as eight boxes on the table alone for storing these
equivalents.
The wealthier
mercenaries would pay directly with Longmen coins or Gold Bars, or the
currencies used by various countries.
However, Reinette has
only visited three countries, namely Colombia, Victoria and Siracusa, so far.
Maybe she will need a few more boxes to store the currencies of other countries
in the future.
Other mercenaries
include Originium Ingots, or the mercenary dog tags that Red just put into the box.
(T/n: Dogtag here is
owned by dead bounty it could be exchanged into money, Wis'adel/ W on dagger
inheritor also taking its dogtag after killing the target bounty)
There are even some
Sarkaz mercenaries who will use Sankta's etched ammunition to pay for medical
expenses.
After red watched the mercenary leave, she turned
around and snuggled into Reinette's arms. Reinette put away the suture needle
she had just threaded, took off her plastic gloves, and touched red's head who had rushed in.
"Huff, huff~
Mom, I'm hungry~"
"Okay, let's go
and get some food from those mercenaries."
red rubbed on Reinette's
thighs for a few times before getting up. Reinette also played with red's wolf ears before getting up and taking red's hand.
The two men opened
the car door, jumped out, and two mercenaries who were staying in the
surrounding camp quickly stepped forward.
"Miss Tiamat, Miss red, my mercenaries, have they caused you any
trouble?"
"Captain Drake, don't worry, your good friends didn't
cause me any trouble, but would you mind giving us a meal?"
"Of course, hey, you two." Drake nodded, agreed,
turned around and shouted to the two mercenaries who just passed by, "Get
a meal for Miss Tiamat and Miss red,
hurry up."
After Drake finished speaking, he turned around and faced Reinette,
extending his hand to invite them to sit on the wooden stakes next to him.
"Captain Drake, if I remember correctly, there are almost
no mercenaries near Siracusa. What are you doing?"
"Oh, we were originally in Victoria, dealing with some
things that the nobles there were not easy to handle. Miss Tiamat, you know. As
for now, we are planning to go to Kazdel to make some money."
"Kazdel? That's not calm for you. I'm not even want to go
there."
"Hahaha, yes, Miss Tiamat, that place is indeed not
suitable for doctors like you to go there, but for mercenaries, that place has
buckets of gold."
"I'm curious about one thing. Logically speaking, the
Battle of the Two Kings of Kazdel has ended long ago. One king is dead, and the
other has fled to Victoria. Kazdel has been in chaos for a long time. Who will
pay your commission?"
"I can't tell you that. Oh, it happens that your meal is
here, both of you."
"Okay, okay, thanks. What are we having for dinner
today?"
"According to Victoria, today's meal is mashed potatoes
mixed with feather beast meat."
"Yesterday it was mashed potatoes mixed with dog meat,
and the day before yesterday it was mashed potatoes mixed with Originium worm
meat. The meat was different, but why is there mashed potatoes every day?"
"We have to pay attention to the budget. It's not easy to
make money from brothers. Potatoes are good. They fill our stomachs and are
cheap. Just add some salt and they'll taste good."
"Cheap, yes, indeed. At least the feather beast meat is
well cooked."
Drake took out a bag from behind and threw it over. The bag
hit the ground, leaving a small hole and looked quite heavy.
"Captain Drake, what does this mean?"
"Extra compensation, to be honest, doctor, we accept your
kindness, but the price is indeed a little cheap. It's not that cheap is bad,
but it's hard to feel at ease, right?"
"With the price tag, I really don't care about that
little bit of money. If I care about the price, why don't I become a doctor in
a hospital or clinic?"
"Yes, if people focused on the compensation, no one would
want to be a doctor. It's hard and tiring, and there's no security guarantee,
right?"
Drake shrugged, stood up and left. As for the bag thrown at Reinette's
feet, he had no intention of taking it back.
"Mercenary... Red, are you full?"
"Uh-huh, do you want to pick up that bag?"
"It's a free reward, why not take it? Pick it up, and
then, let's go. No one here needs medical treatment."
"Yes, Mom."
red picked up the bag on the ground and followed Reinette who
had already stood up and left.
red held the bag and followed Reinette to the driver's seat
and sat in the co-pilot seat.
"Let me see nomadic City... The closest Nomadic City, got
it, it's in this direction now."
"Mom, where are we going next?"
"Let me see, there isn't much Originium solution. Well,
it looks like we still have to go to the border city of Siracusa to get some
supplies."
"Can't we ask the mercenaries just now for it?"
"Yes, but they also need it, so they will ask for a high
price. It's unnecessary. We have money, but we should save unnecessary
expenses, right?"
"Okay, Mom."
"By the way, what's in that bag?" Reinette pointed
to the package in red's arms.
red opened the package and looked inside.
"Mom, it's Gold Bars. There's a lot of it."
Hearing this, Reinette raised her eyebrows, reached out to
take the bag from red's hand and took a
glance at it.
"It's pure gold of very good quality." Reinette
weighed it again with her hand: "About 8,000 Longmen coins."
Reinette threw the bag back to red: "It looks like it should be part of
the commission when they were hired. Such a high-quality Gold Bars and such a
large piece is rare in the mercenary group. Put it in the cabinet later."
"Okay, Mom."
...
Looking at the traffic in front of her, Reinette sighed.
"What's going on? Can a place like this get stuck in
traffic? Forget it."
Reinette sighed and closed her eyes, calming her mind. When
she opened her eyes again, she saw red
standing in front of her with a curious look on her face.
Reinette raised her blue hand and touched red's head.
"It's cool and smooth."
"It's just water after all." Reinette's voice was
filled with a strange bubbling sound.
Reinette lowered her head and looked at her current body,
which was almost entirely made of a smooth column of water. The overall feeling
was that it was a human figure made of transparent azure clay.
"But the face is restored very completely." Reinette
turned her head, looked at the mirror beside her and nodded.
"But it should just be a matter of proficiency. Just
practice hard and you'll be fine."
"Oh, by the way, red, did you take the photos I asked you to
take?"
"Mom, it's done." red handed the phone in her hand to Reinette. Reinette
nodded, took the phone and opened the video.
Reinette watched the video and saw a water clone with her own
face facing the operating table and seemed to be performing surgery.
He picked up the bow beside him, drew the bow and condensed
the image of a water arrow on the bow.
The figure in the image paused for a moment, then put down the
bow, and then condensed a sharp sword in his hand and waved it around the room.
"It looks good."
After returning the phone to red, Reinette walked to the operating table
and looked at the thing on the table. It was a piece of meat, but there were
traces of sutures on it.
"The stitching is also great. It seems that the water
that makes up this body has inherited some of my memories. It can also act
according to pre-set methods, and can also temporarily add methods of action
through mind control."
Reinette pulled at the stitched flesh a few times and was
quite satisfied with the stitching marks on it. She was also very satisfied
with this new skill.
"It's a very practical skill. Let's call it Water
Illusion."
