January 6, 1993 — Tuesday
Zaboru had just arrived in the United States after a long flight from Japan, accompanied by his lawyer, Kudou. After a brief rest, Zaboru wasted no time and headed to Emerald Wings before inspecting the renovation progress on the future ZAGE offices and Kudou, before departing to handle the legal affairs related to the new branch, chose to join Zaboru on his visit to emerald wings.
Upon arriving at Emerald Wings, they were warmly greeted by James and Ryan the owner of Emerald Wings and Zaboru Friends"
Ryan: "Yo, Zaboru! Long time no see. You too, Kudou."
Zaboru nodded. "Yeah, it's been a while, Ryan. James, how have you been?"
James grinned. "Never better. Let's talk in Ryan's office — we've got drinks and snacks ready."
Kudou grinned. "Nothing beats a good drink after a long flight."
Ryan and James nodded in agreement. "Yeah, true — though it's a shame Zaboru doesn't drink."
Zaboru chuckled. "It's fine — enjoy your drink. But the snacks better live up to the hype."
Zaboru and Kudou followed them to the office, where Zaboru was surprised to find a new setup. Arcade machines featuring Rampage, Streets of Rage, and Street Fighter now lined the room, replacing the previous cardboard mock-ups.
James and Ryan brought out the alcohol and orange juice, along with a tray of warm French fries and crispy chicken nuggets. Zaboru eagerly dug into the food, clearly enjoying every bite, while Ryan, James, and Kudou poured drinks and began to relax with their glasses in hand.
Zaboru smiled while eating his food. "Looks like you've already struck a deal with Nanco to bring in NEW ZAS machines, huh?"
Ryan and James exchanged grins and sip their drinks.
"Yeah," James said. "We negotiated with Nando Michio from Nanco. When we mentioned that you partially own Emerald Wings, he was all in. Seems like he really trusts you."
"Haha, that makes sense. ZAGE and Nanco have built a strong partnership," Zaboru replied. "What about HanDai and their UFO Catcher arcade? Didn't bring that in?"
James shook his head. "The deal with HanDai is still pending. Their CEO, Mido Mitoma, is a tough negotiator. Even knowing you're involved didn't sway him — he's determined to secure the best profit possible."
Zaboru sighed. "Can't blame him for that. Still, if things stay complicated, I might consider building my own merchandise division in the future. But that's a conversation for another day. Anyway, are these three the only arcades you brought in?"
Ryan beamed. "Not even close! We acquired several struggling local arcades and turned them into Emerald Wings arcades. Each is now stocked with NEW ZAS arcades, and they're a hit — people love them!"
James added, "We're aiming to expand across the U.S., but Nanco can't keep up with demand. They're swamped with orders in Japan too, so we're pacing ourselves."
Zaboru nodded approvingly. "Good. And get ready — two more arcade titles are launching this January." Zaboru said while chomping the chicken nuggets.
Ryan and James perked up. "Really!? Damn, we'll need to make more room for them. Good thing we already mapped out some spots for upcoming arcade titles, right James?"
James took a sip of his drink and nodded. "Yeah! Thank god we planned ahead. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing those two games in action."
Zaboru, Kudou, Ryan, and James continued their meeting, but the conversation gradually shifted from business to more personal and lighthearted topics. They shared stories, cracked jokes, and enjoy their drinks and snacks.
After wrapping up the meeting, Zaboru said his goodbyes and headed to the future ZAGE USA office. Kudou also parted ways, heading off to attend multiple legal appointments tied to the new branch's establishment.
Soon, Zaboru arrived at the office site , a three-story building currently under renovation. The structure was being upgraded to support a capacity of 80–100 staff members comfortably, complete with personal offices and workshops for executives. Construction had reached about 60% completion.
Zaboru surveyed the progress with a grin. "ZAGE is going global now. Time to scout talent in the U.S. too."
Zaboru then wondered, "What if the ZAGE America branch needs more space for future staff? Should I consider buying the buildings next door too?" He glanced to his left and right, eyeing the neighboring structures, which were still occupied by other businesses.
"It won't be cheap," he muttered to himself, "but if that's what it takes to grow, then it's something I should seriously consider."
Just like at ZAGE's Japan headquarters, where he had purchased nearby buildings and integrated them into a single cohesive buildings . Meanwhile, the ZAGE Tower — still under construction was expected to take another four years to complete.
Zaboru stayed for a while, chatting with the construction workers and asking about the renovation timeline and any challenges they were facing. He thanked them for their hard work, offering a few words of encouragement before finally deciding to leave. With that, he turned his focus to the next item on his agenda — exploring promising American companies for potential investment opportunities.
